Title: Truck gun build
Post by: Coastie465 on November 25, 2014, 06:12:50 PM: So I just picked up a used 10/22 for a truck gun. I was going to make a nice target rifle out of it but decided to stick with my 17hmr. I want to hot rod it a bit but not spend a ton on a gun that will be rattling around in my gun rack all the time. Here is what I have done so far:
Sanded down and painted the old wood stock olive drab
Installed a brand new standard carbine barrel
Ordered weaver see thru rings that mount straight to the receiver
Ordered extended mag release bolt release and bolt buffer

I am going to order an extended charging handle and do a bit of polishing to clean up the trigger pull. Any other suggestions?

Keep the mag in the cup holder, the gun wedged between the center console and seat, just grab and go

If you're really looking for a grab and go wouldn't you be better off with an o/u in a 7mm/20ga? Obviously i'm not being critical on the suggested caliber. Rather something you could shoot any legal mammal and bird with.

If it's truely grab and go then you probably don't want a scope since you'll likely be close (road hunting).

With the hi mount see thru rings I ordered I will have the iron sights for up close and be able to use the scope to reach out a bit. I started on it today by doing a trigger job (thanks YouTube). Reduced trigger pull down to around three pounds. I also did some polishing and cleaned up the action a bit. I am considering a tapco stock. Wow its way too easy to dump a lot of money into a little gun but at the same time its fun.
