The hand held unit fell out of my pocket near the Cemetary side of the hunting area. I used the tone twice to call my dog and less than 5 minutes later the unit was gone when I wanted to call her again. I looked for it for 2 1/2 hours where I had walked. Several kind men helped me look for it, too, but we couldn't find it. I went back after dark, just in case the display was bright enough to be visible. I'll go back in the morning to look. Diane

I found it!!! I went back, broadened my search and found it on it's front in a shallow grassy low spot. Always look one more time!

Very nice, glad to hear it.

how did you lose it? was it a lanyard failure? just curious as one is in my near future?

It fell out of the large pocket of my hunting vest. The clip on the back of the unit was a large flat one made to hold a wide belt and must have slipped off the thin fabric of the pocket. I had rain pants on over my jeans so my belt was covered. With it in the pocket I could look at and use it easily, but it slipped out. It was not tied by a lanyard. It will be from now on.
The hand/held unit of the Garmen Alpha System came with a two part, swiveling belt clip which I used at first, but it was made to hold a narrower belt than I use. Then once it was stressed too much and the parts separated and couldn't be put together again. I called Garmin and they sent me - free - a replacement for the original and another single piece clip that holds a wider belt. Whichever kind you use, always use the lanyard.

P.S.
It's a great system. It has a lot of features I haven't used yet. It's good in the house, too, to correct (on setting 1) my 11 mo. old pup when she picks up shoes to chew on. And their customer service is very polite and helpful. It's expensive, but worth it.
