Sooo should I set up the stand close by?
-
Now that's what I call a good rub! That seems to be one seriously dominant buck ( if that tree has any size to it). Good luck - I hope he comes in for you!

A scrape is made in the dirt with hooves and peed in. A rub is done to a tree with antlers. Not trying to be a smartass just clarifying terminology.

Like abundance said I would want more than just the one if inward going to go through the trouble of hanging a stand there. Here's some examples of a couple decent Blacktail rubs I have hung stands over...
-
That would be a rub, but yes, a stand nearby could work very well if you do it right.
-
I found more of this guys work in the same area last weekend. I might look into pursuing him next year.

If there are more nearby, then yes. Don't be afraid to lay mock rub scent over the existing rub(s) and put a camera over them. A dominant buck cruising that area will smell a "new comer/interloper" and make a rub over your mock rub to show who is boss. Not my first choice, but another one I have used is to tuck a decoy (3D, heads up, or Montana silhouette) into the brush so its partially exposed them spray buck pee in the area and hang my stand over it. The idea is that the cruising dominant buck smells the intruder then sees the partial buck (your decoy tucked away) and moves in closer to investigate/challenge/fight. I like using this tactic in thick cover like sticker bushes and river bottoms (just like your picture). Best of luck!
Awesome, I think I'm going to try the mock rub first and put a cam there.

Don't worry about it, appreciate the clarification. Gotta learn somewhere!

appreciate it! Yeah it was a pretty decent sized tree couldn't get both hands around if I tried (I didn't try to keep my scent away as much as possible)
Appreciate everyones help! Those are some awesome pictures too.

So i went back today to set up a trail cam and found fresh tracks and 3 more rub spots. I think this spot has potential. Hoping the cam comes up with something good!

Hey Bowtech - are you hunting late archery? You better get after that buck soon if it is still out making rubs. That behaviour is going to stop pretty quick and the buck disappear back into his core zone.... (so it is written)
Good luck!

Yes sir, late archery. Working on it! My work schedule is killing me. I'll be out there all day sat/sun
