Missed a good buck tonight due to gear malfunction....at least that's what I'm calling it :chuckle: when I shot ,my bow string drug across the sleeve of my heavy coat sending my arrow way off course, I didn't even see where it went. The buck jumped and ran to the edge of the timber and slowly walked away and outta my life. What are the chances I will see this buck again? Wiley blacktails don't show in daylight often this time of year it seems. He wasn't too spooked.should I put out some bait?its Private land where I know this buck and other deer won't be disturbed. I was gonna give it a day or so to calm down then head back into my blind.

I've never had much luck baiting blacktails. But it is growing in popularity...maybe I've just never used the right bait :dunno:

Keep.at it!!!! Apples might help some and acorns......

Neither have I, and ive been prepared to shoot a doe as there are many on this property. But now I know there is this buck as well as at least two others nearby. I think ill be waiting til the last two weeks before taking a doe since I know it's possible one could show up. I was suprised to say the least given the temp warming up and the moon being large. I have a sick feeling this would be my only fluke chance at a buck this late season but who knows? All I can do is keep trying.

Apples work wonders this time of year, especially with all of the greens being freezer wilted at the moment. Just stomp a few to get the scent out and, most likely, they will come, the does anyways.
I feed protein rich pellets to the deer here during the winter. When I am ready, I place a few smashed apples with the pellets and then they are all over the pellets.
Also, wear an armguard next time with a bulky jacket.

Dammmmm! I'd wait also on the doe. He probably will be back :archer:

I was definitely a little rattled, it would've been my biggest blacktail yet, but I still blame my jacket :chuckle: im going to practice tomorrow while wearing the jacket. And probably try to find some apples as well.

I have problems with arm guards on my heavy jackets. Harbor Freight has camo Duck Tape. It's the same as duct tape just with a different color. Run two or three strips lengthwise on your sleeve then one around the sleeve as often as necessary to get a nice smooth presentation. Works better than any arm guard I've ever tried. Even though it can be messy when you take it off. If I remember tomorrow I'll take a picture of the way I use it.
Don't ignore those zippers either. I missed two animals while wearing my Sitka rain jacket until I realized I was catching the zipper with the string. Slap a square of Duck Tape on that too...problem solved!
