Well I am hoping to be hunting all weekend. Was on call last weekend and ended up working. Going to stay close to home in GMU 407. Bout a 10 minute drive to the gate and an hour or so walk to where I want to be hoping to find a fat doe so the .54 cal will finally get its first kill.

Good luck! Hope you tag one! Sounds like a great hunt- the ratio of drive time to walk time sounds about right! :)

Looks like upper 40 and sun this weekend. Hoping it won't be a zoo up in there this weekend. Thanks for the good luck I'm going to need it!

Same for my son and I, we have five days left to bag his deer. Heading down into 501 to see if we can make it happen as we have spent most of the season down there learning the lay of the land. We did the home work studying the land, patterns and getting a feel for how the animals travel. Weather wise these five days we have an edge combined with what we have learned. Over his late season we have bumped and crossed paths with four deer yet they have out witted us every time. We will be in the same areas again seeing if we learned anything and if the deer forgot anything.
Small snap shot of some of our home work. Anyone needing a little help, pm me, willing to share if you are local to this area.

Good luck guys! I was tempted to head up to 407, but I am thinking I will wait. I have a feeling it may be crazy and I archery hunt so I can wait for the muzzle guys to finish up. Best of luck and be safe!

Hey Soady, nice homework! I may hit you up for some hints for archery next year. Good luck!

Last year during the late hunt I didn't see a sole out hunting. Granted it was 10 degrees out and didn't see an animal but I was good with that since I didn't see another hunter in the woods. This year I have seen so many people in the woods in 407 it's ridiculous. Maybe it's time to scout a new area in a different unit for the late season.

Some more shots of some of the ground we covered today in our last chance quest for my son's deer. Nothing showing except the odd photo op and dozens of beer cans which I picked up and half filled a thirty gallon garbage bag. Wind was blowing and gusting to about 40 mph. We got out fast at last light before we got blocked in with falling timber since we did not have a chain saw if we encountered a downed tree!
Enjoy.

i would say get in deep and put up a climber or use spot and stalk method

So much for me not being on call, got called in to work last nite. Had to be at work at 9:3AM this morning for a sewer loss instead of going hunting this morning we will see how tomorrow goes if I wake up on time.

Well season is over for me with a big fat goose egg. But I'm ok with that! Had a great season while hunting with my wife! Now I need to find me a smooth bore barrel before turkey season so I can try chasing gobblers with the smokepole

Hit it hard since Friday, Saturday, Sunday two different units returning to known deer sightings since late season started, all remote walk in 2+ miles deep and dark. We encountered 0 hunters in the brush and 0 deer. Where did they go :dunno:?

Bummer. I ran in to a couple of road hunters but that was it. Hiked in a ways and saw a couple doe but couldn't get close enough to take a solid shot (archery). I will be back out this weekend.

:bash: dang shame some people have to leave their trash around .that is just the kind of things that give the decent hunters a bad rep. thanks for picking it up and getting rid of it Soady good job
