Title: The Chelan Co. Giant part Tre
Post by: Slider on December 22, 2008, 07:42:43 PM: I had my work cut out for me this mourning. The Bucks were bedded almost on the top of an open South facing knoll. For me to have the wind in my favor,slip in undetected and have the sun on my back for the pics, I was going to have to use a large tree for cover. There was one problem? Their were two Bald Eagle's in the top of the tree facing the Deer. I knew if I spooked the Eagles the gig was up!!! O yea a foot of snow and 8 degree's also. Well just as I made it three quarters of the way up 2 Eagles that I hadn't seen from below with my spotter flew off!!! :bash: Now what? Be patient? I still had 200 yards to go to be within 100 yards of the Bucks. I decided to wait until things settled down. Slider froze his Tail Feathers off again!!! :chuckle: I slowly tried to work my way up the ridge with out spooking the 2 remaining Eagles. I made it about 50 yards from the tree the Eagles were in and sure enough they take off!!! :bash: Again I wait until things settle down before trying to make the last 50 yards to the tree. I eased up to the tree and all the Deer were moving up and to my left. :bash: I waited until they walked over the hill and gave chase. I eased up to the top of the ridge and the Deer were coming back!!! WTF I got set up and got some great shots!!! I hope you like them. Thanks

as far as width, he looks 35 but his ears appear to be small which makes it tough, so my guess is 31"-32".

These pics are taken from long distance with 600mm+ lenses, and we are not chasing any of them just walking through the areas, they really dont even pay us much attention, Once they spot us they typically go on with feeding as normal, but I understand what you guys are saying.

I didnt shoot that pic I think Bone did, I just pulled out of the archived threads. We both saw the same buck a few times last year while scouting for 300.

I woulds say just dont post any with them hauling a$$ in deep snow. Dosn't look good. I honestly dont care but others obviously do and we ought to be a bit more careful or we'll lose more grounds to walk around on before march. :twocents:

Post by: boneaddict on December 24, 2008, 07:46:44 AM: Yes that was my big three last year. I looked for him again yesterday but couldn't find him. I found another in his place. Hes a good one. Yep, you'll note a real decrease in quality of shots. I was shooting him at about 800+ yards. He didn't even know I was there, because I didn't want to disturb them. I actually watched a buck shed yesterday and walked away as to not disturb them. They'll be there when the snow melts. Now if they were the size of Sliders buck I might ahve been tempted. ;)
