Foxpro shockwave. I have the firestorm, but the shockwave is the way to go.

This isnt going to be a great hit on here but I love my navajo.Very load, light, small for the pack and last several hours on the batteries.I can reach it easily 300 yards with the remote until battery is about halfway down.

I'm a Minaska fan.  I have three, mainly for the remote and size as I hate to have to scroll for sounds and to  look down at the remote to operate it and I do a lot of hike, bike and ski in calling.  I keep trying Foxpros but either give them away or resell them.  That said I think I've found a FoxPro I can live with, the CS-24 with the TX-505 remote with a numeric key pad.

You have to figure out how important each feature is to you, rechargeable batteries are a pain to me, on some hunts I don't see a power outlet for weeks, I keep extra battery packs preloaded with disposable batts.  How many sounds will it hold, both my M-1 Bandits hold 100 and my CS-24 holds 500 yet my goto calling list is twenty sounds and I usually go the whole season on those twenty sounds.  How loud is it, I think loud is overrated, a coyotes hearing is so good, my little pocket size M-1's have pulled coyotes from very far and in some heavy wind and for me portability trumps loud every time.

For a first purchase I suggest a bottom end FoxPro with a remote and as you gather experience and find out what you want out of a caller.  If your just going to be a weekend caller the bottom end call might just fit all your needs.  My BinL does control work around dairy farms in WI and he uses a FP Spitfire and I doubt he'll change until it dies, it does everything he needs.  I think that Stand selection and Stand management(getting into, movement while on it etc.) is 99% of calling coyotes.  If your in the right place and you personally don't screw up the stand there will be a good chance to see a coyote no matter what caller you are using.

My first call was a Cass creek, think it had 5 sounds on it. I called in a few dogs with it. Of you got it above half volume there was a lot of distortion. But for $30 it paid for its self quick. Johnny Stewart also has a good inexpensive call with a corded speaker. I think I had about $60 in it. Descent sound as well for the $$.I've been with friends that use the primos or echo, primos wasn't bad but not a fan of the echo. I have a switched to FoxPro and will probably stay with them. My scorpion X1B will carry in a pocket with great sound. The hellfire has great sound but heavy and I had trouble reading the remote.(my eyes, not the remote)  I have the fusion now, great sound, the remote is simple to use and its packable with a ton of options. But like was said earlier, you need to figure out what your plan is for size. You get your doozen favorite sounds and that's about all you need. Most high end calls hold hundreds that you won't use.

If you're backpacking in you might like the small sized callers, that shockwave looks to be a fair sized unit.  Haven't had my hand on one and wonder if it'd fit in my pack.

CS24 is fairly small and slides into the pack nice.

If ypo0u don't see a used one you like on the FoxPro forum site they have refurbished ones available too.  I purchased a refurbished Firestorm and am very pleased with it and was really surprised at the lower price and it still carries the full warranty.

You can say that again..

JUST walked back in from being BUSTED ..grrrrr..big sucker too.  :bash:

Have a Foxpro FX3 that seems to work ok..but it is bigger than I like to tote around.
Time to upgrade - Going to have to check out the MAD Minaska M1 you suggested.

Did a search and found a good write up on it here http://www.chuckhawks.com/madMinaskaM-1.htm (http://www.chuckhawks.com/madMinaskaM-1.htm)
Sounds like a a pretty good unit.

Remote does loose signal easy if its in the brush and over 40yards or so. Normally it re-connects quickly tho. I've used it out to 100 yards in line of sight. But even then it looses for a moment some times.  It will get the job done just fine, just not as clear as id like it.
