Title: Ran into this while bird hunting

Only if he was bird hunting in Idaho....doing so in Washington would be against the law. ;) :twocents:

It is illegal to pick up dead heads in Washington. They have to be naturally shed antlers in order to pick them up and keep them.

If you call a Leo do they have any freedom to make a judgement call on whether you can keep it? If not who gets the head when they take it into their possession??

I have asked a few gammies while up hunting about a couple dead heads I found. They followed me to them looked around for anything suspicious than said go ahead and take them, if another warden stops you have him give me a call?

You have to consider the very real possibility that he was standing on the extreme eastern edge of oregon and picked up the deadhead on the extreme western edge of Idaho. That should be legal. 8)
