What you are seeing is a know problem with some DISC's and musket caps. What I would suggest you do is contact Knight - tell them your problem with musket caps and request they send you a Off-set musket nipple.
The reason that you are not getting ignition because the edges of the cap are not being driven into the edge of nipple to cause ignition. With the off-set nipple you will get contact with the edge of the nipple and ignition.

your the man sabotloader! ill be calling them first thing in the morning. kind of frustrating when a $500 brand new gun makes a better boat anchor than anything else since it wont shoot...

ya, I know what you mean - Knight discovered the problem shortly after they shipped - I think the new ones come with the off-set. I did a lot of shooting with the new Western Edition of the Ultra Lite - but I do not use musket caps so I never encountered you problem myself.
Another thing you could do till you get the off-set is purchase a pack of #11 Mags or RWS1075+ caps and use the #11 nipple

:yeah: I'd recommend the number 11 over the musket cap anyways. I believe you swayed me, sabot.
-
I unscrewed the breech plug 1 full turn and went outside to see if it works. Cap fired. Maybe it has a short breech plug? Either way ill ask for a new breech plug and offset nipple.

peen the edge of that sucker with a flat punch, make a little shelf for it to strike.

No offense. You obviously know this stuff better than I do, but no way I'd be doing that on a brand new rifle. Contact the manufacturer.

Just a $6 nipple. I do agree, if theres a fix out there for it, go with it. Me, I just figure out ways to do it.
-
If it is any consolation, I bought an emergency muzzleloader during mule deer season and it wouldn't fire a cap either. I had to take the gun apart and jury rig it so the hammer would make contact with the nipple. I'm sure when you get the bugs out, you're gonna love that rifle. I've heard only good about them.

Called knight and the rep put a ticket in to have a gunsmith call me today. Waiting now. They said it wouldnt hurt to shoot with breech plug backed out a bit but they would still fix it up. Ill update again after they call.
-
Very good hope it goes well.

The gunsmith called me. He was very eager to help me out and get it fixed up. Asked me to send the breech plug and nipple amd bolt to them amd he would adjust the bolt to allow the firing pin to extend farther. He also said he would send me some bullets to make up for the time lost as well as shipping the parts back to them.
So far great customer service! Gonna drop the parts in the mail tomorrow.
Ill update after i get them back!

I am surprised the owner's manual that came with the gun doesn't have instructions on how to disassemble, clean, and adjust the bolt? Why does a gunsmith have to do it? I take my bolt completely apart & clean it after every use. Then it needs to be adjusted correctly or the gun won't fire. Are the Disc Extremes more complicated? :dunno:
-
dang if it goes any farther you'll start going completely through the caps :dunno:

Cool! Sounds like knight customer service is improving.

We will see if it is fixed up and how fast. :chuckle:

It has nothing to do with the nipple and don't back out the breech plug. Knight had a bunch of bolts that were machined out of spec.
Call Knight and get Gordy Edwards number and he will send you a new bolt body. We had about 9 rifles we sold that had this problem, Imagine how pissed off a guy is when buys his rifle a week before the season(shame on him) and it won't fire!!
Sorry this post is late but there is not a lot going on right now.

Update... talked to the smith at knight past week. He had to find my parts them he callede back and said theyre fixed and in the mail. Is 3 weeks a long time to wait for a repair that took 20 minutes after he "found" my parts? Meanwhile i have a $500 dollar stainless steel and camo boat anchor in my safe... :o

That's actually pretty quick for Knight. Only took me a little over 2 months to get my issues squared away. And that was because the nice lady that answered the phone for the umpteenth time said "to heck with it. At this point I'm going to have a new barrel sent to you. I'll deal with it if they don't like it"

If it does not work this time - let's talk... If they did not take the whole rifle it still might not be right because of manufacturing tolerances that are allowed with-in the contract. The tolerances allowed by the contracts do not cause a problem with 209 primers - but with the tight tolerance Knight wants with percussions caps it does cause a problem especially when the musket nipple and the #11 nipple are different lengths.
Which cap are you wanting to use?
-
I got the parts back, took it out back and popped a few caps. Even the ones that just dented last time and didnt pop went off this time. Seems all is well! Ill he hitting the range this weekend!
Using top hat musket caps.

And at this point that is the most important thing... I really wanted to shoot over here today but we have Seattle weather... waiting for a better day.
