So I'm anal but only cleaning breech to muzzle never running a rod down the barrel. What are you fanatics think about pulling bore snakes down your baby's ?
-
Well coach what u run yer rod down is yer buisness! :dunno:
-
Use whatever gives you a happy ending :dunno: :chuckle:

I use a one peace carbon fiber rod. I've used bore snakes before but I don't feel that they do much. I only clean when accuracy sluffs off so a bore snake will not do the job when it's time
-
carbon fiber or plastic coated is what I use.
-
I use bore snakes in all my AR's. I just point the muzzle at the ground and feed the snake down the chamber. I never clean anything towards the muzzle.
I run a free spinning carbon rod or a coated rod on all of my bolt guns. The snakes can be a little to aggressive for light cleaning.
-
I use a snake after a range session to knock the large stuff out, one or two passes is plenty. I only use the rods when I'm doing a deep cleaning which only happens when I'm putting a gun up for a while or the groups open up (which isn't normally an issue on a hunting rifle).

Great so far. Can't Wait for hunting season to see how it handles
-
I'm a huge fan of the Otis cleaning kit. Works well, easy to use, no rods, and quick.
-
I use bore snakes a lot and like them. I also use rods and brushes when doing a thorough cleaning at the end of the year or after a real nasty hunt, always cleaning towards the muzzle.
-
When breaking in a barrel I copper clean it every three to five shots.
-
I rarely clean my rifles.
But when I do, I use a bore snake from breech to muzzle.
-
What's a bore snake? :chuckle:
-
They come free with the purchase of a tikka and/or a vortex..... Grin

Bore snake = emergency use only
They actually completely suck balls for cleaning.
My match rifle only gets cleaned when the group starts to open...and well is 200 to 300 rounds. it NEVER gets cleaned before a match.
That barrel only seed foaming bore cleaner, copper jag with patch, and occationally a plastic brush. Once clean, it gets a quick wipe with a patch and Hoppes #9.
