Title: birthday fishing trip booked
Post by: D-Rock425 on January 26, 2015, 10:31:01 AM
I ran down to the sportmans show Wednesday after work And booked my own birthday party.  I turn 30 in April so i booked an entire boat for the big party.  We will be bottom fishing out of westport.  A few hunt wa members will be tagging along for the epic party should be a real good time.

That will be a good time. Just don't do like we have done before and party too hard the night before and end up with rough seas.  :puke:

Plan to party after fishing.

Good call. We did a two day fishing trip in Alaska and went to just have a drink or two when we got back to the harbor. That drink or two turned into closing the bar down after many rounds of double jack and cokes.  :bdid: The next day was rough

For those that have fished on the ranger can you give me some insight? I looked on the website and it mentions to bring gear. No problem. I've got a go to rig for bottom fishing. Does that mean rod and real only? Tackle? Someting tells me they frown on braided line?

Sounded like to me all fish dear would be provided.

It did mention gear would be provided for guests that don't have it. I'd rather bring my own rod/reel and use their tackle. You know....for the derby winning lingzilla.

When i talk to him at the end of the week I'll ask what his recommendations are for bringing gear.

I take my own rod/reel spooled up with 40lb mono. They will provide the lure/ bait/hooks/weight. They do not allow braid. If you don't have a pole, the boat has plenty. I use a Penn 209 and an 8' heavy action rod. seems like overkill, but with the amount of weight they use to get you down to the fish, you almost need a rig similar to this.  Your gonna have fun!!!

Weather looks doable....rain gear is packed.

Yep! Should be a fun trip. Get on down there, get some chow, early to the rack and early to rise. I just hope the weather holds. Kinda miserable is fine....beyond that.....well we'll see.

Looks like a tough swell today (11.5 ft on 13 seconds),  but it lays down overnight and you'll have a manageable 6ft at 11 seconds in the morning and it will lay down to about 4-5 feet for the trip in.  That's a little lumpy, but definitely doable.

The benefit of a big swell today, though, is hot surfer chicks wearing painted-on dry suits will be in town tonight.

Lol I think a drive after drinking would be easier than a fishing boat after drinking but that's just me. I just want yummy fish, not too concerned about anything else.. oh except happy birthday D-Rock! Haha, hey at least you're older than me.

H20 is in a happy place. Got a good sleep last night. Got some things done today and vac packed my fish. We had home made mac and cheese and some beer batter/panko fried rockfish.  I'll tell what....I nailed it. I see an early night falling asleep on the couch.

Here is one of the fish boxes....probably about 250 or so stacked in there.

I'll say this about Dinker......yeah he was the only one that got sick. Yeah he did some chumming and took his share of grief from most of us.

But he fished. He stayed in the game, took his spot at the rail, and 90% of the time we could fish he had a line in the water. So Dinker, puke fest and all, nicely done.

yeah.......it was a good time.

I'm looking forward to hearing about the after party and how they fared. We headed off right off the boat and didn't stay for the festivities. They deck hand that did the knfe work was averaging about 15 seconds a fish. He did a nice job. I had about 3 bones per filet and they were bled and cleaned nicely. My back hurt just watching him cut 'em up. I think we each went away with about 12 or so lbs of filets. We didn't get much time to fish for lings and only a few legal ones came over the rail.

Our bags were about 8-9lbs each. I managed to fall asleep around 8:30 and never made it next door, I was gonna take a cat nap and head over there but I was not waking up.
Heard one of them in the next room up puking until about 3am though so it sounded like they had a good time. lol
