The SP101 is significantly smaller overall and weighs half a pound less.

3 1/16"bbl SP101 .357Mag 5 shots--27oz. (1lb 11oz)

3" bbl GP100 .357Mag 6 shots--35oz. (2lbs 3 oz)

The only other significant difference I'm aware of is that the GP100 cylinder rotates on two ball bearings. The SP101 design does not include the ball bearings. In my somewhat limited experience with SP101s, this and other factors give the GP100 a slightly better DA trigger pull.

They are both available in the Satin Stainless.

The GP100 is available in blued in the 4" & 6" bbl lengths and in low glare stainless in the 4" adjustable sight models. The SP101 is not available in blued and is available in low glare stainless in the 2 1/4" bbl model. Since you're looking at the 3" bbl models, the finish difference doesn't really come into play.

Assuming that you get both guns in the same barrel length, the difference in sight radius will be negligible.

Yes the SP101 is (was?) made in 9mm but they are a little hard to find.

Post by: HighlandLofts on January 30, 2015, 09:06:49 AM: The SP101was made in 22lr, 9mm, 327 Federal Magnum, 38 and 357. They discontinued the 9mm and the 327 Federal Magnum, If you can find one in these two calibers you can plan on spending in excess of $800.

If useing an SP101 for conceal carry buy a good holster and a good gun belt, these are solid stainless revolvers and are heavier then most of the Smith & Wesson J-Frames. I have several SP101s, Gp100s and Smith J-Frames. My main carry gun is a Smith 642 - 38+P.

The Rugers are great guns at a very resonable price from certain gun dealers. Some dealers are a little high on the prices so it pays to compare prices.
