Title: Any experience with Ruger LC9s?
Post by: grundy53 on February 04, 2015, 10:02:55 AM
I'm looking to purchase one in the next couple of days and was wondering if anyone on here has one or has shot one? How do you like it? I have been reading lots of reviews but wanted to see if anyone on here has any experience with one. Thank you.

My wife has one for here carry gun I believe. I'd be willing to let you put a few rounds through hers if you wish to.

I shot my buddies new one last week. It's a little jumpy and the trigger is awful. Shot ok and cycled everything we fed it.

Was that the LC9? Or the LC9s? I heard the LC9 trigger was awful, but supposedly they fixed it in the LC9s. I'm not doubting you just want to clarify for myself.

I have the same review of my LC9. Never a hiccup in cycling. Hard, rough trigger. Good carry gun.

I believe my wife has the lc9 but id still let you plink a few if you want.  I didn't realize the LC9s was different.

Yeah, the LC9 has an internal hammer. The LC9s is striker fired. From what I have read in my research is that by going to the striker they were able to improve the trigger pull. But everything else is pretty much the same.

I have sold both models. The LC9s is a much better model. The trigger is much better but still not a super smooth trigger. They are pretty darn reliable. I have shot the regular model about 40-50 round and been around it for another 200+ rounds and it has never had a hiccup.

No problem if you were closer I would hook you up with a great price on one. Even though I just had a member from lake stevens buy a gun from me yesterday :chuckle:

That would be nice. Too bad the gas would probably negate the savings. If I'm ever down that way I'll be sure to get something lined up with you.

Check out the smith and wesson shield, better trigger and all around feel.

I believe it was just a standard LC9. FWIW I would buy my Tarus PT111 G2 100/100 times over the LC9. Maybe worth a look, about the same size and the tarus holds 12rds.  I actually bought the tarus over the XDs.

Indeed on a gun with that price point it would eat up the savings.

I have shot the standard lc9 and own the lc9s. They are both reliable good gun especially for the money. Lc9 is a heavy trigger. The lc9s has a fantastic trigger on it. A lot smoother and lighter than the original. The other thing is the lc9s has no safety, which was primarially designed for law enforcement for quickness if caught in a situation.
I love my lc9s and wouldn't ever get rid of it. Great gun. Have never had a single jam. Really light and not a lot of kick. I bought mine fore 360$ at sportco with my membership.

Go pull the trigger on a new one.  The LC9 was garbage. I also hated the magazine safety. If you didn't have a mag in the gun would not fire. For me that's a deal breaker.  If you get in a fight over the gun and accidentally drop the magazine your SOL for the chambered round. They may have fixed these issues with the s model. The LC9 is the only gun I have actually got rid of. I don't usually sell or trade my guns.

S&W Shield. Its better built and has a better trigger. personally I always find Rugers fall slightly short of what I want. For about the same money I think the Shield is better. just my  :twocents:

I looked at the LC9s when I was looking for a new addition to the family.  Played with both the LC9 and the 9s.  Was going to get the 9s until I fondled the Walther PPS.  They all have a similar-ish feel but something about that Walther PPS 9mm kept calling to me so that is what I ended up with.

I've had a few Ruger handguns over the years, in fact I just bought a new LCR 38spl+p w/lasermax Monday $379 for a brand new one with the laser seemed like a good price so I bought it, and they have always been a good solid product.  Ruger's handguns may not always have a high "cool" factor but of the few I've owned, they were always reliable, solid performers and at a blue collar price point.

I like mine. I've got a Crimson Trace laser and it makes neat little holes right where the red dot is. Kick isn't bad for as light as it is. I also like the low profile that goes right in my pocket. The only drawback is the 8 shot max without a reload. I'd prefer 14 or 15 shots.

I had to do a double take on that. Funny how one little letter can change the meaning of a sentence. :chuckle:

Maybe you should look into getting a PMR-30 it has a 30rnd mag.
Just messin with ya. lol

Recoil is somewhat subjective to what you feed it.  The heavier the bullet and hotter it's loaded the more the recoil.  For just shooting around and punching holes in stuff, maybe go with a lighter loaded bullet in stuff that is meant more for plinking.  Not only is the +P stuff a lot more expensive but it typically has more recoil as well.

Like I said, I think the recoil is fine, especially for as light a gun it is. You can shoot a couple of boxes without any problem.

I've owned one for about 2 years now. Nice conceal carry. But the hand grips are a little small even with the finger extension on. Kick is manageable, wouldn't recommend any + charged ammo. Seems to feed reliable with all sorts of ammo. And fairly easy to keep clean.  Overall I'd give it 7.5/10.
