I got the bores cleaned up and fitted the barrels to the tang. Now the tang and barrel and setting up in JB weld until the morning. Also fit the nose cap and trigger guard to the stock. Just had to drill holes for them is all, but its slowly coming tomorrow. Now if some darn parts would arrive!
Best part of this St.Louis Hawken is the fact shes a SLOW twist!!
Also came with the original box and the warranty/how to build, manual.
CVA St.Louis Hawken with combo .50cal - .54cal 1:66 slow twist barrels! Bores are perfect inside and out. They will get browned. I have an assortment of new parts I am adding on, along with a new stain and finish to try out. I'll put her to bed tonight and let her set up and tomorrow, Break the barrel and tang loose and see how she came out.

Tag - looks like a good project.
-
I bet it will look great when you get it done.
-
it better! I spent over $140 just on supplies to do what I hope is a good job :chuckle:
-
If it turns out like the last one, my birthday is next month :chuckle:
-
It should be ready a little before then  That rarer 1:66 twist though is going to cause the price to jump a bit, plus the buyer will be able to choose either 50 or 54cal. It still wont be bad for a brand new custom sidelock. Wait till we get to the lock! :IBCOOL:

:chuckle:

Dang, that looks familiar.
Can't hardly see all those cracks in the stock :)
-
:chuckle: I bet that got your blood boiling! It gets me every time when someone pulls that on me.
Thanks again! I love it. Shes going to be a real beauty once I am finished and have upgraded some things on her.
-
Yeah, ya got me going WTH???
I really like the look of the browned barrel. IF I had ever gotten around to building it, it would have been browned.
-
Really cool. I'll look forward to seeing it finished. Where do you find these things? :dunno:

He posted a WTB ad.
I didn't think I would ever get around to doing it.

Progress is going awesome! I am finding myself actually humming as I file and sand. For some reason this one just feels special and enjoyable to work on. The JB Weld bedding job came out great, a nice rock solid bed for the tang and barrel to sit in.

Some progress. The cheek piece is always the worse part and thats when the whistling and humming turns to swearing LOL. My horse file took it down quickly but I had to swap over to a wooden dowel with 100grit sand paper around it to get it nice and smooth. Still have plenty of sanding to do in that area but I like to knock down the slow depressing stuff first and then move on LOL.

Sweet job. Very nice.
-
:yike: Are you done already?!!
-
Almost, I have to fit the rear sight and cut down the new Hickory ramrod once they arrive.
The first night I got it, I was pretty adrenaline pumped and blew through 90% of the stock shaping that was needed to fit the parts. The next day I woke up feeling like someone cut my wrists, that's how drained I was LOL.
-
Glad you can appreciate it! It was just sitting here without hope :)
-
Looks great. How did you black the brass?

Wow, sure turned out nice!

Another top notch job Mountaindevil. Really love the way the brass finished out, the Beech stock too ! Thanks for posting these so everyone can watch the progression & see what can be done. Well done.
