Title: Wild birds holding better
Post by: clindsayrun on December 28, 2008, 01:44:45 AM
I work in the afternoons so I can often get out for an hour or two mid-morning after I wake up.

Anyway I was pretty pleased to get into some wild pheasant. Usually the wild birds up here around Oroville in the orchards I'm hunting flush at the first command I give the dog. No sooner than we get out of the truck I can count on watching the orchard empty out! However, with all this snow they're holding a lot better. We flushed a few hens and then jumped a deer that proceeded to run right into a couple of roosters. Dang!
Anyway we jumped nine hens and three roosters (counting the two the deer flushed). I was able to take one and be home by lunch.

I was glad to see so many hens. I hope they survive the winter and that this spring is better on them than the last.

Very cool. I would love to give that winter bird hunt a try someday.... Great job! Your smile says it all!

Is knee waders a must?  :chuckle:
