Can a .308 muzzle brake/compensator/flash hider be used on a .223/5.56 barrel? The reason I’m asking is the barrel is threaded 5/8 X 24 and I’m not finding any .223 devices with that thread.

You can use a .308 brake, but they aren't as efficient.
OPS Inc. makes a .243 brake threaded 5/8, and they are available through Brownells.

Surefire makes a 6.8 brake as well. http://www.surefire.com/sfmb-68-5-8-24.html (http://www.surefire.com/sfmb-68-5-8-24.html)

Daniel Defense makes what they call a "muzzle Climb Mitigator." They say it controls muzzle rise and felt recoil. It is for a .223/5.56 and comes with that thread pitch.
