Title: Chicken Plucker Needed
Post by: Hunterman on February 11, 2015, 01:46:03 PM
Yep that's right I'm looking for a mechanical "Chicken Plucker". If anyone knows of anyone that has one. The ones I've seen on line are called "Wizbag Chicken Pluckers" and man are they cool looking for doing a job on plucking chickens. They will do one in just about 1.5 minutes  :yike: I have about 20 or so to do, and with one of these bad boys I could be done in no time at all

I have a "Duck Naked" plucker that I will sell. Has a hole drilled in the back for a shop vac hose to reduce the flying feathers.

I have a whizbang chicken plucker. We do 100 meat chickens every summer for family. It doesn't take 1.5 min to pluck a chicken...... it takes about 15-20 seconds if you scald them right. Too bad I'm on the east side.

WhizBang is a good option.  I broke down and built one last year.  Before that I was plucking by hand   :puke:

You haven't smelled nasty until you've plucked 80 wet chickens   :bdid:

Costco, 4.99 already plucked, cooked and ready to eat... :chuckle:

Curious as i don't eat my laying hens, but why wouldn't someone if its only like 20 or less just skin them out?

Skinning is fine, unless you want broilers and like to cook them whole (like the Costco rotisserie).  The skin and fat really add to flavor and cooking.  But yeah, a lot of times I just skin and be done with it.

Laying hens are only good for stew pot chickens.  For meat chickens, you can't beat Cornish cross.  They grow huge and fat in just a matter of weeks (well, a few months).  The only way to go if you want the most bang for your buck.  Then you can feed them organic or however you like and not worry about some massive farm and all the disease and \ or antibiotics and other nastiness...

For just 20 birds I would borrow the poultry slaughter unit from the conservation district. We've done it a couple times when we're killing broilers or old laying hens.
