Title: Ruger Redhawk Kodiak Backpacker, holster?
Post by: Yankee on February 17, 2015, 09:25:22 PM
I just picked one up as a back country gun.  Given that it's a relatively new model, and I'm left handed, I'm having a hard time finding a holster that will work.  I want something I can attach to my Badlands daypack waist band.  Any suggestions would be appreciated.  It's similar, but different than the Alaskan.

Here's what I bought:  http://gunblast.com/Ruger-RedhawkTALO.htm (http://gunblast.com/Ruger-RedhawkTALO.htm)

They will custom build anything you need.  Check out the Kenai.

They also have a good Facebook page with great pics of some of their rigs.

Thanks for the info!  I'm not familiar with the Kydex material, how well does the gun lock into the holster, would it fall out crawling around on the ground?

Very secure.  You can take my loaded .45 and turn it upside down and shake it.  It won't fall out.  You can also set the retention as heavy or light as you like.

Sweet purchase. Just curious why you chose the Talo over the Alaskan?

Fair question- I was looking for an Alaskan, but this happened to be in stock at the gun shop near my house, it ended up being a little bit of an impulse buy.  It has a slightly longer barrel than the Alaskan, rounded butt instead of square and it's based on the Redhawk, rather than the super redhawk platform.  I think it's a very similar revolver?  They weigh about the same as well.
