I'm trying to put together a 7mm stw 30" flutted barrel 1-9 twist something like a light Palma or sendero contour on a model 70. So here's my problem I can't seem to find a maker that could ship me a barrel in the next 4-6 months that is to my specs. I could have the length and twist that I want delivered to me next week but it won't be contoured or flutted is there somewhere a guy could have to contour and fluting done on the west side or even down in Oregon.
Thank any help appreciated.
-
The same guy that is going to fit and chamber your barrel should be able to do the contour and fluting.
-
Try broughton barrels, last 2 I've ordered were 3 months iirc. Tim does straight and spiral fluting.
-
Caleb, Try Firemaster up in Cinebar. Hes on the way to Ike Kinswa. But at the wye where you drop down towards the lake go straight like your going to Bear canyon hiway. Hes just a ways past the wye on the left. I heard that a guy I work with is doing some machinist work out there now. Hes a dang good machinist too! Its worth a try.

Kampfeld custom

Pac-Nor?

Kampfeld does some amazing metal work, about as close to perfection as a smith can get. He can work a Remington 700 action like no other I have used.
One of my Rem 700's worked over by Kampfeld.

Call broughton, give him your specs, you'll have it in under 3 months find a smith fit and chamber... Or run up to Arlington and drop it off at benchmark... pretty easy, just gotta Dec I decided what route Ya wanna go

Kampfeld does great work, but do yourself a favor and have the barrel manufacturer flute the barrel. This way you are guaranteed there won't be any issues with bore dimension or induced stress. If you want an unfluted barrel, I think I have a med palma that will finish out at 29".

Kampfeld will flute it. I and others I know have had premium barrels fluted after the fact. Even after shooting the rifle for several years before having them fluted and accuracy has never changed and we have never had any issues with having someone else flute a barrel.
You might want to check here for premium barrels on hand see if you can find one you like fluted or have it fluted after the fact.
This is where I purchase my barrels without having the wait. They get barrels in regularly, so keep checking back or give them a call. Hard to beat the prices also for on hand barrels.

Cool, that's an awesome round. Simpson knew what he was doing when he designed that round! What barrel did you go with? You should have a flat shooter when done with slightly longer barrel life then the 26 Nosler or any of the Wildcats based on the ultra mag cases!

I ended up going with a 26" finished length bartlien barrel I'm probably gonna end up topping it off with a muscle brake. Hopefully have it up and running in time to find a spring bear in Idaho. Hammer I've been eyeing the matrix's already I have a buddy who has been trying them in his 26 nosler.

Great choice in the muzzle brake and the 160 Matrix should flat HAMMER a bear! Several of us push them with a Ultra Magnum case, with some pretty faaaaaaast results. :)

Who would waste their time or money on an overbore 6.5! Think of the barrel life!!!!!!!!!! :chuckle:
Good choice on the 6.5 STW. Good luck with the brass though!

We all know that your numbers are GROSSLY over stated and probably just made up. :chuckle: Next you'll be telling people that you can launch one of those 160gr Matrix bullets at over 3400 fps and make the 26 Nosler look like a 6.5x47 Lapua.

Isn't the stw case based off 375 h&h? Maybe look for those to neck down?
Stews have always interested me as well as the 358 sta

Some have to see it to believe it, most are to busy reading about barrel life rather than bank rolling the componants to wear one out as fast as they can so they have a excuse to rebarrel to another grossly over bore wildcat cartridge. :chuckle:
I'll pass on the 6.5x47, I'm not the soft recoil sensitive type. :chuckle:

Or you can just buy 7mm stw nosler brass for the same price :chuckle:
I just finished a semi custom 7mm stw. 7mm stw brass can be very hard to find and when you do find it, it's pretty dang expensive. Nosler makes some great brass and you can find it on midway and a lot of other places.

If they have it in stock.

Benchmark Barrels in Arlington carries the Matrix line, call and see if they have what you need in stock. I order mine straight from Matrix in Canada. I order in bulk to make the shipping worth while. If you just want to try some to see if they shoot for you, let me know when your ready to rock and I'll send you some on me.

I love any cartridge than can use US 869; that's when you know you're having fun! Muscle brakes are hard to beat when you get up into that sort of case capacity. You should be very happy!
I ordered my Matrix bullets direct from the shop in Canada and I had them in less than a week. I really need to get around to ordering some of the heavy 270 bullets to try too!.

The 6.5x7mm Dakota is a good way to do as well, no belt and brass is easy to find.
