Title: Ammo & reloading supplies prices industry hype????
Post by: Lowedog on December 30, 2008, 06:12:21 AM
With the prices of raw materials and the recyling market in the tank I have to wonder if the rediculous cost of ammo and reloading supplies is a lot of industry hype.  I know there is a lot of talk of how Obama wants take tax the industry out of business but how much of it is true and how much of it is put out there to scare us into going out and buying all the stuff we can.

I used to never handload for my .223 Rem. but now it's the only way that makes sense.  I used to buy Black Hills ammo for under $10 for a box of 50 and I could get it loaded with 50 gr. V-max for around $15 for 50 only a few years ago and luckily bought a bunch but now it's almost 3 times that cost.

Anyway, I just wanted to get some others opinions on my thoughts.

I definetely fell for this if it is all hype. Ran around buying extra every chance I had.

If lead gets banned, are you comfortable taking the rifle out to the forest to target practice with good old fashioned lead bullet/ammo?

Man, I hate having to worry about this crap! You old fogies on here had it made! My dad used to buy powder by the pound out of a drum. Open, scoop, weigh....  (At least that is what he told me...  :chuckle:  )

My hope & guess is that Obama is practical enough not to take on the NRA again.  Though, he does have Rahm Emanuel as his Chief-of-Staff, and he was instrumental in the 1994 ban.

I personally believe that the current shortages are based upon hysteria, not reality.  Reminds me of the '94 primer shortage.

That said, prices are sticky once they get high..... :dunno:
