Title: AR Ammo differences?
Post by: lokidog on March 06, 2015, 12:29:23 AM: Is there any difference between the American Eagle 20 round black and red box 62 gr .223 and the American Eagle greenish bulk box 62 gr ammo?

I'm thinking about dropping the coin before I can't find it anymore. I managed to pick up two 90 rnd boxes two weeks ago for 48 cents/rnd.

Post by: h20hunter on March 06, 2015, 08:57:13 AM: When shooting "in the rough".....not at the range....I take a lightweight sheet of just about anything. I lay it out to the side to catch the brass. If you can, put a rock dead center. That will help your mat catch the brass and it will roll to the center. Just keep saving it and then find someone you have met that seems like a normal guy......maybe somebody oh, like me....and give them your brass in exchange for some loaded rounds back.

Post by: JimmyHoffa on March 06, 2015, 09:33:37 AM: Not sure if that brass you mention has primer pocket crimp, but those aren't much fun for reloading. You can get the crimp removal tool, but even a good one takes a little bit of time to clear the pocket.

Ouch!!! I surf and shop quite a bit. I also have no problems with steel case Tula ammo. You could find .223 for as low as .28 per rd last week. The ATF M855 issue is driving prices up. I just checked gun-deals.com and it looks like it's anywhere from .30 to 1.43 per rd.

I like gun deals because they calculate shipping into your ppr (price per rd). I also use wikiarms. Before I buy I do some surfing to read reviews and see how the company is. Right now there are a couple of places that have great prices but $#%^@#$% reviews.

Thanks, I've not been looking at steel cased ammo as I was not sure about reloading it. The ATF should kiss my soft and silky rear end.... Of course I didn't get my scope a few weeks ago when the price was normal so I didn't know my barrel liked the 62s. >:(

Post by: b23 on March 06, 2015, 10:09:26 AM: FWIW, Caldwell makes a brass catcher specifically for AR's. I don't think they cost very much and I believe they work pretty well, too. Others, probably, make AR specific brass catchers as well but I know Caldwell for sure makes one.

I was just at the new Sportsman's Warehouse in Spokane and saw one on the shelf so they must be pretty easy to find in stores.

I usually use steel if we're out plinking and I don't want to chase brass.
