Watched western Ex. on the outdoor channel they where in the Okanagon hunting with a guide. I am interested in the late hunitng for mulies BUT 5000? is a lot for a washington hunt in my eyes. Or is it?? Comments please can i go to another state and spend 5000 for an oppertunity on bigger bucks. Or even Canada?
-
Darn near pay for an African safari for that price and get to see a different part of the world.
-
$5K for a deer hunt in this state is insane. No offense but for the same money a guy could easily go to another state and be able to have a hunt where you probably see more deer and have a shot at a bigger buck. You could easily do a guided hunt in MT, WY, ID, CO where you would spend the same but probably get a much larger buck. Or go to Africa and get a really cool hunting experience.
-
What everyone else said. If I had $5k to burn on a deer hunt it wouldn't be here. Check out Colorado, Montana, Wyoming etc and I bet you could get a better quality hunt for cheaper. :twocents:
-
I've hunted with Tanglewood before and like them. Last I checked they were no where in the same universe as that price but it's been a few years. Oren and his family run a solid outfit with plenty of big deer on private & public land.
My :twocents:

You aren't going to get to hunt any later in the year by having a guide. What it really comes down to, unless you are talking about a horse pack in, is paying $5k for access to large blocks of private. Unless a guy has some physical limitations just pick a region with ample NF and go work hard at it. What's "worth it" varies wildly person to person with respect to paying to shoot a critter though.
I'd only pay an outfitter for a ride to where I want to hunt. When I'm 70 I may see this very differently. I have no interest in paying $5k to shoot WA mule deer, now or then.
-
It was not Tanglewood. But Jim Burnworth hunted with them last year. So maybe thats why they think its worth the 5000.00?
-
its a business, they charge what people are willing to pay for and i don't think they struggle to fill their spots. im sure they have a pretty good repeat customer base as well.

Netminder.....when did you go? I've hunted with Oren and the crew twice....I should say I took my dad once and my brother a second time. Todd and the crew are a good bunch. Rita has a knife that I had Rainshadow make for her. It was a pearl handled all purpose knife. When I gave it to her she said hang on and came back with a loaded .44 mag saying look how pretty it is next to my favorite gun!

I went 3-4 years ago and have a nice Mulie on my wall to show for it. I really enjoyed their company and even took my GF (at the time) with me for a turkey hunt. Great country - great people.

We've got a cabin over there and there is LOTS of public land there. Do your homework with maps etc.....

Is it really worth $5000 to sit over a pile of Apples for a week not hunting in my Book.

I have never used them, but I've heard good things about Early Winters Outfitters.

Cost a lot of money to keep those apple piles full. Must be hard to edit some of those shows with trying not to show to many apple trees, houses, tractors and old orchard equipment. ;)
-
Jerrod. Gibbons
-
Ovgs jerrod gibbons took both my daughters muzzy hunting with his outfitt was worth every penny great guys. Both daughters tagged out opening day.
-
If you have any questions pm me. The meals and where we stayed were great

Or the thousands and thousands of acres of open land, both public and private. Just sayin. ;)

they just bait and wait .

Okanagon outfitters is the worst guide service I have ever came across in the woods. They came right up next to a house and started called for bears. About got there ass shot. They where 200 yards we all though a coyote had something in the bush. bad deal right there. They bait the hell out of the deer. That being send if I had 5k burning a hole in my pocket I would look at Utah, Arizona, new mexico. they all had so awesome mule deer.
-
Who the hell is the "Okanagon Outfitters"?? Trust me, I'm not affiliated with any outfitter in the county, but for crying out loud, get the name of the outfitter you're referring to correct. Please! There's Okanogan Valley Guide Service, Cascade Outfitters, and others. In nearly every thread that discusses them, no actual names are ever right. :dunno:

:chuckle:

I have hunted w Jerrod and he is a standup guy.
-
I have a hard time with this, I shoot better bucks then most of what you will get with these guys, doing it all myself on public land and doesnt cost me a penny, I dont understand capable people paying for this. to each is own i guess.

Whats your trick to getting all these nice bucks on private land for free! :chuckle:
Just kidding. I know what you mean but dang. Just going hunting seems to cost me a lot. Even if its just out back!

I can usually do a two week hunt for $500 or less, fuel and groceries. I figure I can hunt 10 years for the price of one of these $5000 hunts for a 150" buck or smaller
-
I had a couple buddies who went with okanogan valley guide service for the late archery season two years ago. It was 5 grand a piece. They weren't very impressed they sat in the same blind for the whole week. One buddy saw one small 3x4 towards the end of the hunt and took him. The guy he went with that paid for the both of them didn't even see a legal buck. They said the lodge was not that great and the food wasn't that great.
-
I have some buddies that have said the same. Plus, I would much rather put in the hard work and reap the reward. Boots don't last long.

This is typical treatment from OVGS, however if you say you will get his face on some outdoor show or can further his business he's all in to roll out the red carpet for you (or red apples) LOL. I've spoke to several people who have been done extremely wrong, also I know quite a few land owners or locals in the surrounding area and they have nothing good to say about this guide service or him as a person. All of it speaking of lack of integrity in business matters. If you have used him and had good luck consider yourself lucky. if your considering using him.......reconsider. I would. one last thing this is not a bash, everything i've said is the facts!!!!!!
-
I drew an any buck tag last year and l have talk to OVGS before and I booked with him to do that hunt in the rut in late nov AND IT WAS WORTH THE MONEY .We hunted 3 1/2 days and l passed on deer every day I took a very nice white tail buck that went 5x5 150 b&c and passed a big 5x5 mule deer probley 28" . The only reason l took the white tail because it was my first one and I have gotten big mullies before. The guide was the best ,it was not J. GIBBENS but an employee or buddy he has working for him. I NEVER SAW ANY BAITING or an upset land owners We were on privet land every day .I would us OVGS any time and only can say good things
-
5k for a deer? Man, I got money but no way would I spend 5k for a deer in Wa. Lace up them boots and start scouting now...

To some, 5K is nothing more than money spent on a coffee for a normal Joe. To each is own.
-
in 2013 they had a guy from
Renton sitting on a pile of apples in private property that they said they had permission , wrong ! anyway I let the guy hunt since he didn't know better and spent the $$$$$$. my guess is he hunts way more private land than he has permission too .

Exactly what bone said, Its not your money, who cares how a guy spends his money. Its not like hes getting into your checking account and stealing 5 grand from you to pay for his hunts. Man this site cracks me up.
-
Not sure if it is the same guide....but there is one up that way that got kicked off a bunch of private land he didn't have permission to hunt. He even went as far as to build a wooden blind on private property. He tried to lie to a bunch of the land owners saying that he had permission.....little did he know, they had already talked. I can't remember the guide service, but believe he is also does a lot of fishing stuff.
Don't much care about the money aspect...just another way for some to hunt. Definitely don't like the trend of shady guides hunting land they don't have permission to hunt.
-
$5K will buy u a great landowner tag in other states

LMAO, we have a supporter here. Might be a bag of worms you you might not want to open mtnman................

You can LYAO Mtnmuley. I don't support or not support this outfit. I have hunted geese several time with Jerrod, and had good experiences both times. If he is doing anything unprofessional, people do need to know. Let's get facts in that case. Not just" a freind said" or" I heard that..". Those you have actually hunted with this outfit has said good things. If there are negative comments, let those that have actually hunted with him make those comments. Only fair. Hunters here deserve that, don't you think?

As much as is reasonable and possible H-W allows individual expression. But there are parameters that should be followed. H-W asks everyone participating in this topic to please avoid heresay/rumours/defamation and please keep comments factual.
Social media allows people to easily express themselves and their thoughts publicly. It should be mentioned for everyone's benefit and understanding that untrue comments published by anyone on the internet that damage a business or personal reputation can be legally pursued. If defamation and damages can be proven due to false comments, then damages can be and have been awarded by courts.
Read more about internet defamation:
Social Media and Online Defamation: http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/social-media-online-defamation.html (http://www.nolo.com/legal-encyclopedia/social-media-online-defamation.html)
for better or for worse, a federal law called the "Communications Decency Act" has specifically exempted website hosts and ISPs from most defamation claims.
The bottom line on this type of situation: If you are blogging or writing on your Facebook page, or submitting comments on someone else’s blog or Facebook page, make sure that you have all of your facts absolutely straight before posting your statement to the internet. Once you have clicked “send,” you can’t take it back.
Or, alternatively, if it is a close call, why say it at all? To use our example, why do you need to write on someone else’s Facebook page about Mary Johnson being fired? Unless you’re the one who fired her, you don’t know all the facts. In submitting posts or comments online or on social media, it is a good idea to exercise the utmost caution and avoid making any "gray area" statements that could be construed as defamation.

Online Defamation Law: https://www.eff.org/issues/bloggers/legal/liability/defamation (https://www.eff.org/issues/bloggers/legal/liability/defamation)
What are the elements of a defamation claim?
The elements that must be proved to establish defamation are:
1. a publication to one other than the person defamed;
2. a false statement of fact;
3. that is understood as
a. being of and concerning the plaintiff; and
b. tending to harm the reputation of plaintiff.
If the plaintiff is a public figure, he or she must also prove actual malice.
Is truth a defense to defamation claims?
Yes. Truth is an absolute defense to a defamation claim. But keep in mind that the truth may be difficult and expensive to prove.

Yes, its a nice deer too, I know I would have shot it, bait, no bait, apple in it's mouth, that would have been a dead deer. Glad to hear he had a good experience with no bait.

I paid $5400 for both my daugters and we had a great time. We made friends and they were very nice. The other hunter scored on a very nice mature 4x4 with eye gaurds. We will be going back. I love the haters on here
