I look almost everyday at ones for sale and can never really find the one I want. So I got the crazy idea of building one. Have you ever done it? Lets see it

Plywood and two by fours. Wrap it with metal...... Have seen home made ones on the interstate.
-
what are you looking for specifically that isn't offered in the stuff you have looked at? what size?
-
Looking for a 5x8ish. With a long tongue so I can put a large cooler on it.
Also with a side door or at least able to open the door from the inside. Rides a little higher off the ground. And preferably low profile

Made one back in the 80s out of a Kmart trailer. Wrapped it with aluminum with hinged lid to carry all our camping gear. Later sold the aluminum and added longer tongue turning it into boat trailer. Now it's the garbage cans hauler.

I will give you some advice from personal perspective as i believe we are probably using them for similar functions:
6 x 8 with at least 6-7ft interior height v-nose with side door
Custom add a receiver hitch to the rear, so that you can add or remove a cargo receiver for your cooler to it. Most of the time the cooler will be inside, but in the rare occassion that you need the extra capacity. Unless you have one custom made or custom altered to get the long tongue. a square front doesn't tow near as well as a v-nose.
scissor jacks mounted in case you want to use it for a place to stay, and want the support
add longer shackles to the leaf springs to get the increased clearance you are looking for to get it further off the ground.
I use one with 5ft interior height and even at 5"8" inside, it is extremely annoying to use it for anything if you load inside, as you are always banging your head or hunched over.

6 or 7 foot wide gives you the ability to put narrow cots along the exterior walls and still have a path to walk in between. can't do that with a 5ft wide trailer

I needed bigger. A 20' truck box with 8' ceiling. Wanted something I could haul the FJ40. I've done a few upgrades; insulated ceiling and walls, bunks, folding counter, shelves, side door, wood stove. Still a few upgrades in mind. 10K loaded with gear. Would have prefered a gooseneck hookup, maybe in the future...
