There's the great turkey migration there. They all swim across the open water to breed on the islands. Seen some nice toms over the years.
It's archery only, you should be good.

If you have boat access, head about a half mile from the San Juans between May 2-6.

PWA, most public land in E WA seems to have some birds, unfortunately, most seems to have hunters as well.
Why are you set on only hunting public land? No reason to make it harder on yourself to find birds. A young person knocking on doors politely asking for permission has a pretty good chance of getting it, especially if you are a young woman. :twocents:

yeah I might try some doors and see if anyone will let me. I just have never done it before so I thought I would hunt public till maybe a friend of a friend knows someone.

It's a lot easier to get permission after the first weekend. Many of the landowners in our area have friends and relatives who come for the opening weekend, but after that they will let others hunt. It can be a little tougher after the birds are educated, but still plenty of birds around after that opening day salvo is over. Unless you are able to get over early and knock on doors, I would suggest you wait until the 2nd or 3rd week to try. (I have a nephew who hunts memorial day weekend and has plenty of access and has killed birds the last 4-5 years-rarely sees any other hunters)

2/3 to 3/4 of the state's turkey harvest is done in the NE corner of the state with Colville area the turkey capital of Wa. Get off the main roads and you'll find that half of the property owners don't mind you taking some of the turkeys, especiall y with a bow and more so as a first responder.
