Title: Tikka Vortex Combo Scope Question
Post by: curlewkiller on March 27, 2015, 06:01:00 PM
I mounted a Vortex Crossfire 4-12x50mm on my new tikka t3 lite 308 and I used Game Reaper DNZ scope mounts in medium.  I have about a 1/16 of clearance.  Is this enough?

1/16" gap is perfect as long as it's not too short for your cheek weld. I run my scopes as low as possible.

It'll be fine. I like to get my scopes as low as possible.

Just don't try and slide a butler creek scope cover over it.

I pretty much have 50mm scopes and try and use DEDNUTZ on any gun. I've never had a problem. Sometimes you can move the scope forward a bit to get more clearance too..

I take someone already did.....I cannot wait to shoot this gun. Am I going to cringe with the recoil on the 308?  I am a fairly large human.  I am finding it hard to laser bore sight in my rifle without a good gun vise.  Any tricks?  Other than get a gun vise... :chuckle:

Recoil on a 308 ain't bad  :twocents:. Granted you won't be able to shoot it all day But you'll be able to shoot it  :chuckle:

Got a backpack?

I never use a laser......or a vise.

Remove bolt
Set rifle on a backpack, or a couple jackets etc.
look down bore and sight bore on something around 50 yards away.
Adjust optic
Repeat as necessary until optic and visually sighting down the bore are correct.
Replace bolt

This should put you on paper.

 :yeah:

Works great just be careful not to bump the gun while you're working.

I steady the rifle with one hand when I look down the bore and crank the turrets. Just realign and repeat if the rifle moves a little. It's even better if someone is with you and they adjust the turrets While you hold the rifle steady on the bench, pack or bipod.

Bought a gun vise to work on my guns, $50 at Cabelas.  I think I will sight it in this weekend.  Thanks for all the information.  I appreciate it.  I tend to get paralysis by analysis.....
