Title: Baiting
Post by: gun-dog on March 28, 2015, 08:28:58 PM
I know, everyone's favorite topic.  I really want to know; what is the process that now has to take place for this WAC (232-12-078) about banning baiting for deer and elk to be enacted?  I personally bait deer on my property. I only have 20 acres on which I plant several food plots and have 2 corn feeders.  I do not want baiting to be banned and I am curious as to what the state needs to do now.  It usually seems like our state takes the anti-hunter approach so I am really worried.  Like I said I am wondering what now will happen to get this proposal either approved or denied, I don't care about anybodies opinions on the matter.  THIS IS NOT A PLACE TO DEBATE THIS TOPIC.

Oh, OK, this was just in the discussed proposals.  I thought maybe something new had come up.

Seems pretty obvious to me when 87% of respondents oppose it, but then again, I'm smarter than the average bear and actually have a zoology degree - unlike most WDFW employees and at least half of the Commission....

I don't know what the procedure is.

The Fish and Wildlife Commission WILL, on April 9 or 10 at their scheduled meeting, vote to either make no change to the WAC, or vote to approve one of the 3 possible changes: WAC 232-12-078, -079, or -088.  Once voted on and published, the result is the new rule we'll see in the Regulations pamphlet.  That's the process; unless the Department comes up with a better solution between now and then and makes the appropriate WAC change proposal that the Commission can see as a viable option to vote in as the new rule.

The regs come out later and later every year. My guess by 2025 the regs should be out in late November

I would guess mid April.  They still have special permit elk hunts and cougar hunts going on, and I would think they would want the harvest data from those in case they need some last minute type change.  Figure a few days for last minute submissions and letting bios play with computer models before giving the final say to the print shop.   :dunno:

On the link in the 4 point thread it looks to me that they are going to allow baiting up to 10 gals.

They changed the amount to 30 gallons, but I didn't see any indication as to which of the four options they are recommending to the commission, if any. It looks to me like it's entirely up to the commission to decide which option they want to choose.

How many gallons is in a bale of hay?

The proposed WAC(s) says 30 gallons or 4.01 cubic feet.

Looks like that rules out a standard bale.
