I'm thinking of picking up a rifle for when I'm out on my dirt bike for a backpack. Couple questions has anyone tried this? Thinkinging of using a takedown rifle. Do they come with a soft case? How small are they really? Any issues with them staying on zero? Right now I've got my 500 S&W that sits on my chest and if something is with in 50yds I'm good, I'd like to extend that range out...

I've lusted after one of these in 358 Win for a long time...

What kind/style are you looking for? T/C is pretty good and compact, but single shot. ARs are easy takedown. Savage 99 (lever gun) are compact--take a little longer to assemble because of screwing on the barrel.

Someting I can legally hunt big game with that will fit in a backpack that will not take super long to put together. I can see being frustrated trying to put a gun together as a huge 180 class buck walks across a clearing :chuckle:

Now I really think the BLR takedown fits the bill. Pretty sure it has been designed by Browning engineers to be put together quickly and quietly enough to not spook your 180" buck, but also rated for 350 class bulls as well. They tried to make a 200" buck / 400" bull model, but the manufacturing process was too expensive. :chuckle:
-
Rossi single shot.
-
Hey Tman....you got an AR? What about an upper in hunting caliber. Two pins, snap that baby in, and start blasting!
-
Two that I have that are faster than an encore, would be a (Thompson Center) TCR 83 or TCR 87, and the old savage 219. Both can be put together in seconds, just snap the barrel on the receiver and pop the forend on. Only problems are the 219's are limited up to 30-30WIN, and the TCR's have such nice looking walnut it's hard to hunt them in the thick stuff. Both have barrel mounted scopes so accuracy after assembly is not an issue. Both are also single shot rifles.
-
Even faster than a take down. Your hands are free to bike, ski or snowshoe. Just reach over your shoulder.

I like that
-
Wow, I'm like the idea of getting a pack like that and biking past a gate, try to get back a little further than most guys go. Good way to do some road hunting!
-
Well got the bike tonight now time for the gun lol. I really like that nimrod scabbard pack. Would that be legal to ride down the street with a rifle in it :chuckle: just saying if I took off from the house with it.
-
Wheres the rifle?

Wheres the rifle?
thats what I'm saying! I need to figure out a way to carry it. I'm liking the scabbard idea. Was just wondering it that would be legal going down the highway lol...

You can carry an uncased gun in a vehicle as long as it is unloaded. Just get a rifle with a magazine that you can carry in your pocket. The question is if you have your poncho over it do you need "Concealed Carry Permit"?
-
Start with one of these

Then get an ATV gun boot and modify to fit. Works on my TW.

I've got several boots right now just not seeing how to make I work yet.
-
Do you have a Cycle rack? Or other?
Here are a few links.

read the info and click on some of the links on these pages.
Also on the cyclerack link provided earlier is a picture of a gun boot on a motorbike. Just go to the home page and watch the slide show.
You can also make your on mounts.

You're in AK right now, right ? Go the Wild West Guns in Anchorage and look at his takedowns. You'll thank me that you did....

I think he'd be legal in Washington even without a conceal carry permit because of the exception in the law about when you are going to or from a legal outdoor activity.

I've looked at them many times! Very very nice! VERY VERY SPENDY! Plus they focus on calibers like 50s&w. I'm looking more at calibers like 300WM or 7mm. I can hit targets pretty accurately with my pistol up to 50 yds. that sits on my chest. I want to hit stuff up to 500 lol...
