Anybody use an over/under for turkeys?
I'm going to use mine this year...headed to pattern it over the weekend....I picked up a couple chokes for it...curious to see if you that are using one are using the same chokes in both barrels, if POI is close enough to the same, etc.
I've got a couple different rounds to try but I'm not going to buy multiple chokes for each barrel. Hoping it works out. I have a backup plan/gun if it doesn't, but I can't see why it wouldn't work just fine.

What's yours J? 12 or a 20?
I like the idea. Love the o/u for doves

12 gauge.
I bought 2 Carlson's choke tubes that they recommended. We'll see how it shoots.

Sweet. Hope it patterns good for you. Thinking top barrel for longer shots?

I used one years ago, it was a fixed choke model. It was before the factory turkey loads, I reloaded buffered copper plated 5's and the O/U delivered 95% patterns. It worked I got my first turkey with it. Although I didn't need 95% patterns, I stumbled into that tom at 5 yards. I got up to move to another site and walked in to a bird sneaking in. I don't who was more surprised.

I use an FIE side by side 12. Older than me.

Fishnfowler uses sxs shotguns.

Sxs for everything!!

I use my stoeger condor 20 gauge most of the time. it does the job.

Should work fine jack. Might not outdo a 3 1/2 mag designed turkey gun at 60 yds with the Longbeard XR's :chuckle:

Well, I'll try. I'm shooting those same XR's but the 3"er's.
I'll probably steer clear of the 60 yard shots.

Charles Daly (Sabatti), never have needed the second barrel

The only shotgun I own is an over/under.
Turkeys get full over modified.
I'm kind of impatient though, so the only two turkeys I've shot died from the full barrel..... Couldn't wait for them to get closer.

SxS for everything, turkeys are no exception. My poor kids have been forced to hunt with double triggers and SxS also. I've posted this before, but this picture is of my 13 y/o Son when he was 8 y/o hunting with a 1909 20 gauge LC Smith. He graduated to a 12 gauge last year and took his first Tom with it last Fall. He is looking to put his 8th bird in the bag tomorrow.

My current turkey gun is a 1929 no-name Spanish boxlock that is choked fuller and fullest:

Those are some beautiful weapons. It really make for a nice hero shot.

Ithaca 100 SxS. Those side by side barrels look like eyes to a turkey and they fall into a hypnotic state.
To the original poster: Just turn your Over and under sideways to get the same effect.

I'll be using a 16ga sxs hammer gun this year. Got a tom with a 1905 Lefever 12ga sxs last year. Double guns are great for turkeys, since you rarely shoot more than once, and you have a choice of which barrel/choke to use.

I change up from my 12 Tominator Muzzle Loader, Nova and Stevens Gold Wing 20 gauge O/U. The O/U works awesome I use Heavy Shot Blend Turkey loads in it and Full and Extra full chokes. Have not had an issue with Knocking down a Turkey with it. Point of aim with either barrel I just put it on the head and let go. Bird in the dirt every time so far.
