Title: My CZ 557 carbine...
Post by: andy* on April 11, 2015, 06:21:45 PM
So I was looking for a short range hunting rifle for deer, black bear and elk. Where I live and hunt 150 yards is a long shot and 75 yards or less is about the normal range.
Did some looking around and felt like the 557 carbine in .30-06  fit the bill.
The fit and finish on my carbine is very well done. The stock makes the sights easy to align.
After carrying the carbine around where I hunt, I found that it was easy to tote on old logging roads and in the brushy woods.
The fiber optic sight was easy to see in sunlit areas or in the dark of the woodline.
As for shooting I found that I could keep 3 of 4 rounds touching near the center of a 3 inch circle , offhand at 50 yards.
Felt recoil was manageable, due in part to the thick factory recoil pad, the Remington 165 core-lokt factory load and the fact that the carbine fits me well.

I have 3 center fires and 1 rim fire + a CZ75 9mm. None have given me any problems and to me they will shoot the lights out of a Rem, Win or Browning just my  :twocents:.

Nice to hear that CZ shoots and works well for you Wadu. This is the first CZ I have owned.
Hard to find things like a walnut stock and decent ( if any ... ) iron sights on a rifle these days.
Just need to try different ammo and see what the carbine likes the best. Also I am going to swap out the sling for a "Montana" sling.
