Cooler weather, better rut activity, hopefully more vocal elk, I like it! Season starts on a Saturday tho, I kinda like mid week start dates lol :chuckle:
-
This state is so gay about starting on saturday's, I talked to the new permit manager a few days ago and he said that half the hunters want the opener to start on saturdays. I like it better knowing each year when my hunt starts, Idaho rocks!
-
We already know the opening day for 2016 and 2017. Is that far enough in advance? :dunno:

Would you rather it start the Tuesday after Labor Day like last year?
I don't know about you but I prefer the Sat after to the Tues after.
Stop hating on progress!

Starting on Saturday is sweet no I won't need to use any vacation to go elk hunting.
-
I personally hate the saturday start. Everyone in the woods on the same day. I am not complaining about the change as it is much better for sure. Would love to see it be the 12-24 every year regardless of which day the 12th lands on. :twocents:

that was my point exactly, how hard is that.

Im thinking let everyone get excited on Thursday ,Friday for set ups then hunt saterday ,sunday ,leave Monday or before and I will be there on Tuesday, and my spot will be there all alone !! Well its a good dream anyway, that's my plan ,just sayn ! :IBCOOL:

The "personally" part is hard to swallow here. We advocate and argue for seasons that the vast majority of hunters will appreciate. I take all of September off to hunt elk, and I know where this "personally" comes from. But I want the most possible hunters to be the happiest with our decisions. Most hunters only spend 6 days in the woods, and if getting 2 guaranteed weekends in the seasons can move that to 6.5, then I consider that a big win for the bowhunters in the state.

I talked with wdfw the other day about this and they told me it was actually split 50% on the whole Saturday start. Not trying to be an internet fact nerd, just saying.

I can't wait. Hoping to take a couple 4 day trips around the weekends to not miss as much work time!
-
These are some great dates that's for sure makes me sick to think I won't be here for archery but I am going to try muzzy here for the first time should be a great bow season for all the archery hunters. Thanks Todd and all that contributed wiith working with our state I believe this is a good point in the right direction
-
Thanks to you guys fighting the fight! I'll "personally" be happy when the archery season is August 28th till the end of September and any elk state wide............. :sry:
-
It's still a near miss guys. The season will shut down a few days after the rut kicks into full swing. Close but not quite, better but not there yet. On to Idaho yet again for the last two weeks of September.
-
Phantom - I hear what you are saying but it is still the latest into Sep in over 25 years! And last time I checked the last 14 days in Sep would be he 17th to 30th. Apparently 8 of those days are overlap with Wa! 😃

Still don't have our late bulls back in 520. So I will likely hunt archery during the muzzy season.
-
Great year to draw a bull tag for sure. I prefer the Tuesday start as I was always back home from a four day hunt before the weekend madness. Saturday start sucks, every bow hunter in the whole state out the same day. But a good trade off for the later date obviously.
-
This will be my first year hunting archery, and we (son, daughter, and I) are looking forward to it. I'll be off work from the 11th - 20th, and hope to get something on the ground. Still trying to decide between the east or west side of the state, always hunted west with the rifle, and I'm tempted to go back to those areas since I know them so well, we'll see, going to be fun either way.
-
I've been wondering how many modern hunters will be headed out to purchase a bow now that the dates have been released...? Haha

Probably VERY few. Lure of OTC cows will always be the biggest draw for bowhunting in this state. One week later to call in more hunters probably isn't much incentive to get a modern guy to lay down his boom stick. Should definitely motivate Multi-Tag holders to get more serious with the bow though!
-
Good point there RadSav.
-
That and the new $200 nw cva muzzies will have a lot of modern guys going with the muzzle loader.
-
I think the 209 primer would motivate more rifle hunters to try something new than any season change or cheap weapon access. Maybe with all the new muzzy units opening up that user group might finally relax enough to allow the 209 as legal ignition. Still just a seven day early muzzy season where rifle is 12 days. So not sure just how much a difference it would make.
