Title: chelan butte access
Post by: wheels on April 18, 2015, 07:33:34 PM: im pondering putting in for the disabled tag for there, so i was wondering what kind of access there is

Post by: Falcon on April 18, 2015, 08:02:58 PM: Decent with a road on the top and bottom. Typical of sheep areas it is a fairly steep Mtn on the top end but nothing technical.

Post by: bobcat on April 18, 2015, 09:03:18 PM: There must be some easy access for a disabled person. That's why they are issuing a disabled hunter tag. You should apply for it if you're disabled.

Post by: Ridgerunner on April 19, 2015, 03:45:02 PM: Some years they are close to the river and some years they are high on the hill, just depends. I think the rougher section is by the river myself. Make sure you have someone that can help pack out.

Post by: winshooter88 on April 19, 2015, 03:54:19 PM: Since they are targeting specific animals and there is a hunt coordinator, there might be access that is not normally open, try and check with Rich Harris who is the WDFW bighorn sheep manager or with the local biologist, Dave Volson, they may have more information. Harris was over there earlier this year checking out the sheep on the butte.

The intention for this hunt is for a sportsman to harvest a sheep, so steps will be taken to afford opportunity. This truly will be a once in a life time opportunity for a disabled hunter.

Post by: wheels on May 09, 2015, 10:08:30 PM: i have been emailing back and forth with Dave from what he said will send you a packet out with map and some general info on the sheep habitat snd what not sounds like will try to fix up some of the roads before only thing couldn't answer if could get up there before season

Lot's of people would gladly help out with scouting, spotting, and packing.. just hollar if you need help.............if you draw the permit.

There are two permits for hunters with disabilities, and they are in separate categories. One category is for "any ram", and one category is for "ewe only". Drawing the "any ram" permit and killing a ram would qualify as the "once in a lifetime" ram sheep unless the WAC is revised. http://app.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=232-28-622
