im pondering putting in for the disabled tag for there, so i was wondering what kind of access there is
-
Decent with a road on the top and bottom. Typical of sheep areas it is a fairly steep Mtn on the top end but nothing technical.
-
i was trying read the description talks about the Columbia sheep come down to the river ?
-
You better be able to hike some, sheep are not found close to any roads.
-
oh ok that satement may have just made my choice for me thanks hiking not really an option
-
There must be some easy access for a disabled person. That's why they are issuing a disabled hunter tag. You should apply for it if you're disabled.
-
From the proposals:

very try buck list animal looks like best way to possibly make it happen
-
another question water access how near river the sheep will be
-
Some years they are close to the river and some years they are high on the hill, just depends. I think the rougher section is by the river myself. Make sure you have someone that can help pack out.
-
If they open up the access road for the disabled that would help with access too.
-
thanks i know ill have atleast one person to help packout
-
Since they are targeting specific animals and there is a hunt coordinator, there might be access that is not normally open, try and check with Rich Harris who is the WDFW bighorn sheep manager or with the local biologist, Dave Volson, they may have more information. Harris was over there earlier this year checking out the sheep on the butte.
-
oh ok thanks
-
In speaking with the district bio, rest assured, there will be access for this hunt. The intention for this hunt is for a sportsman to harvest a sheep, so steps will be taken to afford opportunity. This truly will be a once in a life time opportunity for a disabled hunter.
-
i have been emailing back and forth with Dave from what he said will send you a packet out with map and some general info on the sheep habitat snd what not sounds like will try to fix up some of the roads before only thing couldn't answer if could get up there before season
-
If you got drawn for the ram hunt would that be considered your oil chance even though you can only shoot ones with ear tags?
-
that i dont know i would guess yes thats why only plan on putting in for ram draw
-
im not 100% sure but think you can still apply for a ewe.
-
There are some very old trails that the early miners made on top of the Butte but they are pretty steep. It is not fun to bring a mulie out of there with 3 people :bdid: If you need help packing just call.
-
good to know
-
If you have any desire to hunt sheep, I would say this would be the best opportunity for a disabled hunter. Lot's of people would gladly help out with scouting, spotting, and packing.. just hollar if you need help.............if you draw the permit.
-
it is one of my bucket list animals i use to put in for ram draw before but gave up figured wouldnt happen do to lack of mobility but now they have this one im back in the game
-
Put in and if you draw, I'm sure there are several guys on here that would help you out. I doubt I will ever draw a sheep tag, so I for one would be interested in helping you out if you are fortunate enough to draw. Good luck to you in the drawing!
-
thanks for all the offers from everyone im just gonna keep fingers crossed
-
If you got drawn for the ram hunt would that be considered your oil chance even though you can only shoot ones with ear tags?
There are two permits for hunters with disabilities, and they are in separate categories. One category is for "any ram", and one category is for "ewe only". Drawing the "any ram" permit and killing a ram would qualify as the "once in a lifetime" ram sheep unless the WAC is revised. http://app.leg.wa.gov/WAC/default.aspx?cite=232-28-622
-
As said before, if you draw the tag, I'm local to you Wheels, living in Graham and working in Auburn. Hit me up and I'll gladly pack for you or help however needed.
-
sounds good
-
I am curious to see how many people put in for this tag.
-
hoping not many ha ha
-
hoping not many ha ha
:chuckle: Looking forward to displaying my ram horns next to my elk antlers in my neighborhood in Spanaway.
-
I'm in for it
-
anyone draw this tag and let me know. The butte with a sheep tag is a fun place to be even if its not yours.
-
big surprise no dice
-
Just got a call and pic from Pope, he helped the ear tag holder get #13.
-
nice wouldnt mind hearing about the hunt
