Title: bone tries again
Post by: boneaddict on January 03, 2009, 04:51:58 PM
Spent most of the day yesterday in Idabooners neighborhood and didn't even get to stop to say Hi.  The alarm was set for 4 am but the Mrs decided that was too early so we left at 8  :yike:   The Ice wasn't exactly any fun driving half way across the state.   It was a day to be spent together cross country skiing. NOT looking for wildlife.

I may not have been looking for them but that didn't stop me from accidentally seeing a couple

We finished with a little light left and I am like lets go look for some wildlife. ;)   Like a particular deer I wanted to see again.  On the renegades haven't butchered yet.
Look who I found.  My big lens is TOAST, so I was shooting withthe Panny, and also my spotting scope.  Somebody tell me how wide they think he is.

THey were shot at 72.  I had them on a tripod and did it on teh timer so there was no vibration.   The deer was about 800 yards out.

My first impression was 31"... I had to give him 22 on the ears...they are laid out nicely in some of those pics. His bones are jutting out about 4-5 inches on each side...EASY... so....31-32... Maybe more??

Nice one doug..I am real sorry for your loss though... better get her in the mail... right in prime season too... $&@#%#&#

I think he is probably short Charlie of 190.  The one "weak" fork probably nets him out of being 190.  He's close enough though gross to give him the designation in my book.  I probably won't get his sheds. I am not agressive enough at pushing the deer.  Some yahoo will be out pouncing around in hip deep snow trying to sift through it to find it this next week I am sure.

Something about a pure typical 4 point though that does have allure.  If I'd of had that tag I wouldn't have passed on this deer.  It also wouldn't have been in a subdivision.  Aesthetics mean alot to me. and before someone jumps on my arse, I am not putting his buck down one cent.

I'm not conservitave, I try to judge exactly what it is. But I think I will start being a little more conservative. Wont be as disapointed that way  :chuckle: Trust me, that buck wouldnt stand a chance! 20 inches smaller and he wouldnt stand a chance either  ;)

This one wasn't from there.  He is a LONG ways from that neighborhood.  Those are Methow genes.

I give that lady one bit and that she probably helps keep the poachers down and maybe a few of those overzealous tribal hunters, but she probably could lay off the guys with the big white lens'.  When I was there I got alot of really nasty looks but I had my daughter with me with her binos, so I got cut a "little" slack.

I know you didn't duck.  I was tlaking to Rob as I think he thought I shot that one in the Wenatchee region, whcih I know you know very well.  In fact I wish I had your checkerboard map of your brain of what was state and not in there.  What a pain in the ass.  I wish I had your local knowledge of that area.  I'd like to do alot more photography in there.  Its too competetive for me for shed hunting there.  You Wenatchee guys are nuts.

Its always good to have a lawyer around.  Some folks have some nerve.  I also need to pack a surveyor that works for the county assessors office becasue people keep hanging up no trespassing signs where they aren't supposed too.
