I got a woodie :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL: I got a woodie :IBCOOL: :IBCOOL:
Ok a hen wood duck. :chuckle:
We hunted Ridgefield today, blind 8, got drawn 1rst in the standby lottery. :IBCOOL:
I limited with a hen wood duck, a hooded merganser-- high speed pass--snuck up on us--it was a great shot.,a drake greenwing teal, and 4 shovelors. I fired 23 shots tho :hunt2:. I claim a handicap due to the New years incident( 4 staples in my head)
The skybusters kept all the pintail and mallards at bay in our area. :bash:
My brother, Pepster42, came up short with 6 birds. Next time bro.
What a great day to be in the blind. :brew:

:'( You got me on that one :lol4:

Is this your first Woodie? I remember mine. I got two mallards and a couple of spoonies today on 9. Should have had a couple of more mallards though. We saw a wounded drake Woodie in the slough heading out of the refuge. People were taking pics of it but you could see it had a broken wing, too bad those are some beautiful birds....
-
YOU ACTUALLY GOT DUCKS EVEN THO YOU WERE SKYBUSTING, THATS AMAZING.
-
Wow pepi you actually registered to slam me? Skybusting :yike:, I had three hot loads and yes I tried them out on two occasions. I'm supprised you noticed, considering you were the one preoccupied looking for wounded birds?
-
i only had one wounded bird and that was after you left. the rest i dropped by blind. remember: pintail take a while to come down, let them work down.
-
Awesome hunt.... Your living my dream
-
Now now children.
I added a pic,
Yes this was my first wood duck. :IBCOOL:
I wonder if the cripple in the ditch was the other bird with mine.?
My duck had a shot pattern across he back, so I wonder if my brother winged the drake with it That would suck. :'(

In all fairness.
We did spend time retrieving our birds, but we retrieved ALL of our birds. Pepster's last retrieve was a bitch and took awhile. Bravo Bro. You get a extra bowl of food.
While retrieving my wood duck, I got to find out that my waders leak in the crotch. :yike: Thank god for the heater.
-
thanks for the pic :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
How did those spoonies, magansers taste. :dunno:
-
dont you hate when your bro gets a woodie before you do, congrats bro. p.s. those were sympathy ducks cause of boo boo on head. :chuckle:
-
Gee thanks. I feel all warm and fuzzy.
The spoonies aren't bad, soak em in raspberry wine and a little lemon juice for 4-6 hrs, cook in soy sauce and a little sweet bbq sauce, mmmm tasty.
The mergy is gettin cooked for the dog.

I killed a nice drake woodie a few days ago and decided to get it mounted!! He is already at the taxi and cant wait to get him back...Will post pics when he does......Congrats on the birds...I have killed many over the years but have to mount this one....
-
What does a mount cost?
-
I think $175-$275 is pretty average depending on the taxi. I have never done it but I have heard birds are really easy to mount. I might have to try it someday. I have several at the taxi now and can't wait to get them back. This season of duck hunting has been the best I can remember. Limits in 1-2 hours has been the norm lately.
