For the pointing breed (American Brittany) any advice?

Ask for advice and let the judges know it's your first time. First pointer test I ran I picked up the dog within 45 seconds because it was just grab assing with the brace mate. Good times

...all part of the process, and there was no where to go but 'up' from there right?

If it were me, I'd be attending one of the upcoming tests in May to watch, and I'd make a connection with someone to work my dog in a brace situation. Check the AKC site for the specific dates and locations for tests.

knowing the rules helps alot too. It would amaze you how many people go off bitching about this and that and they don't even know the rules of the game.

I have seen a lady on FaceBook just ranting about bad judges, unfair decision etc, etc. She's described the situation and her dog failed. Then she blames the failure because the judges were, "field trial judges" trying to hold everyone to a unfairly high standard.... lol  :chuckle:

I still remember running my first one and the best advice I got was let the dog hunt. RJ Marquart was one of the judges. I was so nervous and kept blowing the whistle trying to control my dog. RJ rode up along side me and said "let him hunt." If you put in the time with your dog he will do fine. Also don't get discouraged, your pup may not have a perfect run but just keep working with them. Number 1 piece of advice I can give is have fun, everyone will have an opinion on how you should train or how your dog should run. You know your dog better than anyone else so listen to your dog and enjoy it.

Are you running at the Wenatchee Kennel Club test this weekend? Also I see you're from Walla Walla, I grew up in Prescott.

Love Prescott, I'm out that way quite a bit! But, no, I'll be at the hunt test in Williston, ND
