Title: Husky needs help catching fish! Lol
Post by: HillSlick on April 30, 2015, 12:30:55 PM: Hey folks, well I'm going to the UW and have been rather unsuccessfully fishing Lake Washington for the last year. I don't have a boat so I'm stuck fishin from shore. Mosly I've been hitting the small concrete deck underneath the 520 bridge next to Ivars by the U.

If you don't mind me asking, how in Gods name do you catch fish from this lake?! I was only ever taught to fish with bait and a hook, as well as a spinner by my dad. And I can't seem to catch ANYTHING. I'd love to catch some trout, but at this point catching anything would be great.

It's rather depressing quite frankly.

So if any of you would be willing to share some fishing tips with a broke 20 yr old college student I'd really appreciate it.

Post by: notellumcreek on April 30, 2015, 01:11:57 PM: :yeah: I think you might be in a more bass area then trout area over there... try on the other side of the stadium for bass but I bet trout don't venture in canal area much with boat traffic and what not :dunno: good luck post up results if you catch something!

Post by: jamesfromseattle on April 30, 2015, 02:00:45 PM: I grew up in that neighborhood and used to fish around there all the time. It has been about a decade since I have fished there much, but try across the ship canal in the Foster Island area. There are trails all around and a few bridges, so you can access a ton of water from shore.

Never seen any trout in there, but the whole area is loaded with decent sized perch and some small bass. Always had most luck for bass early in the morning, but tons of perch all day. Try under the bridges themselves when the sun comes up. Most people used a bobber and worn but I'm sure other stuff would work.

If you're a UW student, take advantage of the IMA canoe rentals. Quick paddle to some pretty good smallmouth spots from where you rent the boats.

Post by: jamesfromseattle on April 30, 2015, 02:09:00 PM: Also, if you really want to catch some trout, give Green Lake a shot. Pretty quick bus ride from the U district. (However, I would strongly recommend against eating anything from Green Lake).

Post by: Seahawk12 on April 30, 2015, 03:03:39 PM: I've lived near Lk Washington for years but don't fish it. Most of the fishing I've seen done has been down by the I90 bridge off of boats. The contaminants are high enough in there that it isn't recommended to eat much caught out of that water. Check the regs for the states recommended consumption of the different fish species caught out of Lk Washington.
If you have a car then there are some small lakes that aren't too far away that would be better. :tup:

Hit the arboretum for top water bass. Floating repalas.

Trout= trolling motor.

Lake Wa is hard to figure out :bash:

Agreed, I have had Sea Perch, and let me tell you, some of the best tasting fish I've ever had. Granted 50% of the taste was likely due to mommas good cookin, but HIGHLY recommended.

Don't eat Northern Pikeminnow and Carp. Limit Cutthroat Trout to 1 meal per month and Yellow Perch to 1 meal per week.
Sockeye Salmon, Rainbow Trout, and Pumpkin Seed are okay to eat 2-3 meals per week.
Women who are or might become pregnant, nursing mothers, and young children should also follow the Statewide Mercury Advisory.

Fair enough, but in my own defense I have a surprising number of friends that are WSU people :) we go back and forth giving eachother a bad time. That being said, GO DAWGS!
