Went fishing with a guide once. I didn't know about the no bananas rule. We weren't catching any fish. One of the guys on the boat asked if someone brought bananas in their lunch. I fessed up and threw them overboard. I was the only one to catch a fish that day, so I don't know how valid the rule is.

I have a son who lives for Springer fishing. I honestly think if there was only one fish in the pool in front of him he will stick a hook in it's face!! He made a mad dash over when it opened up on Thursday from the coast. he was letting me know where he was. Since I texted him and told him I was done at 5:03 Thursday Morning. He showed at just a little after 10:30 I had a rod loaded for him and he walked down to the beach and in less than 30 minutes beached a keeper he turned back and reloaded. He was done in 2 1/2 hours with a 16 lber.
The next Morning he had caught and released 3 keepers before 5:30. and shopped fish until he picked up a 12 pounder around 11.
I invited a friend from work who showed up Friday afternoon and he fished for about 4 hours and picked up a nice fish. The next morning he starts with us and it's like the fish swim down the current and then take a left turn and swim around us. people on both sides are just hammering them. My Buddy wanders down on the beach and asks you want a " Banana"? Excuse Me!!!!
I know it is superstition but I tie all new leaders each and everytime I go fishing for Springers and if they don't get fished I retie them before I go. I have never had them break but on Friday I had 5 leaders in a row either the knot of the hooks break or the other end or just bust in the middle. :dunno:
My buddy went and hid the offending evidence in his truck and he caught a small salmon. Told us thanks then hit the road after about 3 hours. He wasn't gone 30 minutes and the bank exploded and we all were done in less than an hour.
So if i do invite you to go fishing leave the bananas at home with your wife!

It's a fun tradition to joke around about, and we have been known to terrorize competitors in walleye tournaments with bananas. Hiding them in their boats, throwing one in their boats when they make a pass too close to us. It's all in good fun and 99% of people agree.
But seriously, I hope nobody really thinks that having a banana on board in actually prevents a successful fishing trip. Unless the banana just gets in your head and owns you...

Absolute!!! I find this an interesting topic, a lot of folks have never heard of it. A person at work had never heard of it but then on the other hand inherited a boat and won't change the name since it's Bad Luck. Go Figure :dunno:

Most of the power boats I have run were aluminum hulled boats. So that means "No Pennies!" We had a ritual where everyone on board gets an introduction talk, we check licenses and then we all check our pockets and throw all pennies in the bay.
