Painted the stock on my rem 700 .300 yesterday and I think it turned out pretty good for my 1st attempt! I'm not quite finished with it yet, just put it together to see how I liked it. I need to put a couple layers of a hard clear coat, or lacquer. anyone have any recommendations on a good one to use that had a matte finish? All I can find is gloss, and I don't want it to be shiny!(https://hunting-washington.com/smf/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.tapatalk-cdn.com%2F15%2F06%2F02%2Fa891b4c6a159bdfb5ee61e135b164ed7.jpg&hash=3f0d0291e45d1d65fa3b0ebdc7a61eac4a16fb49)

You can use the gloss, when it is completely dried, take a real fine grit steal wool to it and it will take the shine away and still look good.
Just one way to do it.

:yeah: there is no semi gloss or flat lacquer, you just skuff after its dry.

Not true. You can go to any automotive paint store and purchase a semi gloss clear coat. I have done that myself. If you "scuff it up" you will have lines from the steel wool. PPG does make a semi gloss clear coat. I have been painting for 28 years.
By the way Buglebuster, that looks pretty good. Did you do that from a rattle can or an airbrush? There is a technique to do that "rock finish" with an airbrush.

:yeah:
Use the flattened clear, will with stand UV and chemicals way better. :twocents:

Looks good. Also looks like there are several products on the market.
