Title: Vortex Razor Binoculars
Post by: Star882 on June 04, 2015, 08:37:47 AM
I have read hors worth of reviews on the Vortex razors and tryed them out at Cabelas. I was planning on getting them and upgrading from my Vortex Diamondback's I currently have.I planned on going strait to the razors instead of getting the vipers and upgrading again in a couple years. I was going to go with 10x42. Since it will be such an expensive purchase I just want to make sure I'm not getting anything I need to upgrade in the future. I like the vortex brand based on the warrenty and customer service. But let me know if there is anything else you guys would recommend instead.

I went with the razors over the vipers for the same reason you are thinking..  The reason I went with vortex over some of the other brands was the warranty..   They are outstanding glass and I am very happy with them and feel I will be for a long time..  Some of the other brands that are getting good reviews and are new are Maven might be worth looking into.   If you do pick these up make sure to contact elknut on here as he had the best pricing when I bought mine and I see lots of people selling used ones for what paid new from him.

Go back to cabelas and have them pull out all the glass 10x40-43 in that price range, maybe 3-5 different optics and compare. Vortex is hard to beat at their price with their warranty.

When you talk about possible upgrades everyone would say Swaro, Leica, but thats double or more the price of vortex razor.

Dont buy from Cabelas you will be paying way to much  :twocents:

I really wanted the razors.  I liked them a lot.  I ended up getting the cabela's outfitter series HD in 10x42.  They are 500$ cheaper than the razors and I could not tell much of a difference.  The problem that I found with the razors is that even though they are good glass, for the price point I don't think they are worth it.  That is why I went with the cabela's glass.  The razors were not any better for 600$ more.  If I am paying close to 1k$ for glass, then why not  save 100-200 hundred more and get really good glass.  This is just my opinion but check it out for yourself.  My cabela's outfitters and the razors are both Japanese made.

Id go with the razors. Though i would get 10x50. I have had 10x42 since they first came out and love them if they had 10x50 when i bought i would have got them.

Have the 10x42 as well as the 65mm spotting scope and love both!  By far the best without paying at least another $1,000

C heck with Neal or Doug at Cameraland for the best buy. My nephew got demo Razors from them for 949.99 and they look new in the box to me. Doubt you find them any cheaper and the service is 1st rate. I have 12 yr old Swaro SLC's and the Razors are very close when we were out in hunting conditions. Store comparisons are a waste of time. :twocents: :twocents:

Elknuts store has "demo" models for $945. By demo I mean an opened box and never seen the field.

I bought the Diamondbacks and ended up just wanting more.  I ended up with the Talon HDs and love them.  Overall, Vortex optics are very, very tough to beat dollar for dollar.  I have two of their scopes and am very happy with them as well.

I agree, get out of Cabelas.  The warranty is the same no matter where you buy, so find an online place with free shipping and no tax and you can save quite a bit.

If you can't afford Swarovski or Leica get the Razor's.  I have yet to look through anything in the Razor price range that I thought was even close to as good as the Razor's.  The other option is to hold out for some used Swarovski SLC's.  I run across used 10x42 slc's for $1200 a couple times a year.

I'm running the 12x50 razors, and am thinking I might try and upgrade the wife from Vipers to Razors before hunting season.  Like xXLojackXx said, find some demo/open box.  They're much cheaper than new, and worst case scenario if there is anything wrong with them (shouldn't be) you have a full warranty to get them fixed.
