Title: pick up truck tool box
Post by: Bofire on June 06, 2015, 04:05:55 PM
I am looking to get a tool box for the back of my new truck. It must hold a 48 inch hi lift, cables, comealongs, shovel axe, fire extinguisher, and misc other junk. Lock in my truck and a good lock on the lid. Dimond plate? locks? brand name? thanks looking for input.

I really like my pro tech.  It's held up well over the years. I believe you can order it deeper if you like. You can get em with two lids or one, smooth top or diamond plate.  Mine has two lids, if I were getting one today I would probably get one big lid that can open from either side since you can get larger items in easier. I like the diamond plate since I think hold up a little better, but the smooth look nice and would be easier to polish. Do you want it to sit on the bed rails or down on the bed floor? They have good pictures of their web site.

I saw a good looking new Chevy today with a pro tech box in the bed box. It looked pretty darn good

I have a deep above the rail smooth pro tech with the large single diamond plate top lid. The only thing I would change is the lid surface, a smooth surface would be better for me. As mentioned polishing smooth is way easier. I will definitely only buy a single box length lid from now on. Ive found some items just wont go in a double or gull wing style box. Its hard to beat pro tech boxes. Weather guard is another quality box but I'm not sure they are available in a smooth finish. I've had the bottom fall out of a couple cheaper brand boxes from hauling similar items you mentioned.

Another vote for Protech. I finally bought one after owning cheap ones and will never buy a cheap one again. The weight of this one is 2x what the previous one was (Delta , same dimensions)I got the full width single smooth lid . Will never own a diamond plate box again , to hard to keep polished

Pro tech, but ur gunna pay. You could look for a used one on CL and polish it to look new to save a few bucks if you wanted.
