Title: Kenetrek problems
Post by: HighCountryHunter88 on June 08, 2015, 12:46:16 PM
so ive had a pair of mountain extreme un insulated for about 4 years now and after initial break in they fit like a dream for 3 seasons but the last couple times ive been out my heals are getting torn to pieces! i dont understand why this would be happening, there's no damage inside the boot and they have been so great up til now? i know they're not worn out as people wear them a lot more than i do. any suggestions on what i should do?

i need to decide if i need to get a new pair of boots and start breaking them in good before sept!!!

Have you changed socks?

are you lacing them tigher or looser?

otherwise, I too would be confused.

I had the exact same problems.  I sent them back to Kenetrek.  They simply said they were wore out.  However, they did give me a considerable credit towards a new pair of boots.

I felt like they made it right.  I had worn the boots hard and they performed well.

same problem with same socks ive always worn, and i lace them as tight as possible and ive always have. they dont feel as stiff as they used to but if ive worn them out already then im not impressed. ive had em a few years but i know i dont wear them near as much as some other folks.

Beware of animal based dressings and oils, they oversoften the leather and wear out faster.

Like I said, they acknowledged the fact that they had worn out quicker than advertised. I felt like they went above and beyond by doing what they had.
Boots don't come with a lifetime warranty.  A proper fit, goes a long ways on the lifespan of any boot.

I have a pair of the uninsulated that after 6 months, both insides behind the ankles tore out. I needed those uninsulated boots, so I never sent them in. Now they're basically trash, because they eat up a pair if socks daily. Irritating. Obviously they'll say they're worn out now, but making the call to them is going to happen.

several years ago my son shot a moose and it died in a small dent,or dip.  the blood was an inch or so deep and of course we walked in it for hours.   I had on my favorite pair of danner mountain lites.  all 4 sides blew out within a month cuz I forgot to clean them well.   so boot wearers beware.   mike w

They are awesome with their warranty and standing behind their product but I am far from impressed with the quality of the boot.

Try a pair of Sole EV insoles, they work great, about $45.00. Obviously your heel is slipping
That's what tears up the skin. Friction!

Are your feet soft from the winter ??

Alot of people sit in a office all winter long then when spring/summer hits they hit the woods expecting there feet to be just the same as if they were at the end of September

Not saying this us the case at all but something to consider

i guess that could be something that is happening, i called kenetrek to see if they had any ideas and they didnt other than send them in. so i guess im going to just start with the soft feet idea and start wearing them every day for awhile and then graduate to other options of increasing cost from there if its not working. the only thing i get nervous about is screwing around with these for too long and have them not feel any better and then have to get a new pair of boots just before season.

thanks for all the suggestions and info

My wife runs Kenetrek and puts on a ton of miles with a pack.
She used a pair of heal only, gel insoles that completely made the slippage go away.
They are clear and have a small green or blue area under the heel.

I have a pair that after one season leak badly! They have been in my closet for 2 seasons now. They also seem to suck in the snow! me and my old man both spent more time on our ass from slipping one year in Idaho than we did on our feet. I have a pair of old danner elk hunters I pull out for snow days now. Besides that they are really comfortable to wear  :chuckle:

I'm a Danner guy.
The Bob sole is unbeatable and has a wide stable base.
Perhaps they don't last as long but while they are up and running they are my pick.

I've recently had both Crispi and Kenetrek in multiple sizes on around the house.
No thanks.

The best boot is the one that works for you.
Over the years my Danners have gotten the job done.

I did the lathrop custom boot system. They put me in some lowa bighorn hunters and so far i love them! After the first 5 miles they have been super comfortable. Lathrop and sons was a pleasure to work with also.

This may be old news to some but it was new to me and made a difference in how my work boots fit and feel.

Sounds like your insoles are worn out. I would start with that.

I ran some lite Keens and they were OK for as long as they lasted in the hot dry weather which wasn't long.
