Well I will be one of 12 lucky hunters roaming the canyons with a rifle for a good bull. Hoping I can do the tag justice this year.

Great Tag. Was in there in 2013, feel free to pm me if you want some info.

I had the rifle tag in 2010. I was in great shape and did it all without horses. Wish I had went with horses. You probably won't deal with the foot of snow the first night I got with a week of constant fog. It is some very big area. I can give you some pointers on some areas.

Great tag. I put in for 12 years and never got drawn. Don't have access to horses anymore and I haven't committed to hiking in for it. Congrats and Good Luck!

Get some horses and start doing squats everyday. Great tag

Thanks guys...after reading some threads on here, I'm starting to realize I have my work cut out for me. Looking forward to it. As always, any advice is welcome. Seen lots of advice already on other threads about horses and doing drop camps. Looking at all possibilities right now to try and make this tag count.

Drew the same tag this year. I'm in the same boat, need to get in good shape lol. Looking forward to a fun hunt. Good luck!

Drop camp👍 u won't regret the cost! Good luck Josh!!! The later dates this year I think could be a good thing.

Great tag COngrats. Make your hunt a great experience and enjoyable and do a drop camp at a minimum. You will spend every day in steep nasty country . I wouldnt do it without good help and pack animals Have fun

I have been putting in for that unit for many years for the muzzy, up to 20 points now. ghost this year. Congrats on the draw, I hope you kill a big one. My 2 cents, do a drop camp if you don't have connections to horses or know the area very well. Westernlife outfitters has always been highly rated and his drop camps were 1,300, not sure if his prices went up or not. And that is the price for a supplied drop camp, you just bring food, sleeping bag and your gun! It takes so long to draw a quality tag like that, I was going to put myself in the best position to do the tag justice. I'm 45 and I'm no marathon runner, the drop camp would allow me to be in elk country without killing myself getting there. They pack out your meat as well, and in that country that in itself is a feat. Anyway, just my thoughts, good luck and enjoy every minute of that country. It is heaven on earth!

You have to be in better shape than just good. I dropped 30 pounds for this hunt and was 33 and it still very difficult doing it without horses. I kick myself all the time over this hunt. Like I said I was hurt by weather big time which shouldn't be an issue for your hunt.

Id count on multiple days of fog and crumby weather!!!

I had the tag in 2013. Wasn't in the shape I should have been in. Did use Dave to haul me and my gear in. Also had great assistance from friends and others hunting in there. Shot a good bull but saw some great ones. Spend the money and use the outfitter, you won't regret it. I would be willing to share info if needed.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I have been in contact with MtCook and I'm looking at a drop camp. I'm really starting to get excited for this hunt as it will be the first time I've done a pack in type hunt. Now I have about 3 1/2 months to start getting into pack shape and gathering gear and supplies. Hopefully I'll have hunt to remember and I can have a nice little write up and some pic for you all in the end. Good luck to everyone else this hunting year as well.

Nothing beats being able to dry out, be warm, eat well, and see well in a tent at night.
Sweet dreams.
