This will be twice in four years i get to call in bulls for buddy's cant wait :IBCOOL:
-
Should be a good hunt. I like that area, especially the walk down the Wenatchee Creek trail. I've sat up top in the evening and listened to the bulls bugling below, or maybe it was just you down there calling.
Have fun, stay safe.
-
Have fun! super fun hunt

 can't wait till September
-
We will have fun. Get in the best shape you can. ;)
-
:yeah: And if you think your in great shape work some more. I spent the entire season there minus a day and half to rest and I have never had knee problems in my life and it took me 5 months to quit feeling sharp pains in both knees and popping when squatting.
-
heres a couple bulls from mt view last year on cam. Chased 10-15 bulls bigger than that bigger bull..might of even been more

if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black I don't know what is. Have you started working out yet turkeyman?
-
Hey Shane, where did you find such a flat area to hang a camera :chuckle:
-
Oh those pics are deceiving this was a knife ridge and the cam was hung on a tree off the side about 7 ft high to be level with the salt :chuckle:
-
I ain't scared... I'm drinking beer and eating pizza till we leave :chuckle:
-
Dont be scared to drop all the way to the bottom. The bottom half is where we encountered most of the elk. There isnt much easy about hunting there.

Looks pretty easy to me :dunno:
:chuckle: :chuckle:

I see a road down in the bottom.. See way down there

i maY have sat near where you took that pic and wondered what the hell i got myself into!
I know i wondered that while filtering water from wenatchee creek with huntnnw after trying to get to a bull that we couldnt physically get to.
Its a strange thing that i actually want a rematch down there with those elk... but this time with gunpowder and lead! :chuckle:
-
Is that from the turnout near Lake ridge trail head? Had 3 different bulls talking from that spot one evening.

Nope. This was taken from a finger off of Sawtooth Ridge looking Northwest.
-
I wish I was standing there right now and bailing off into there.

Still getting it done at 49 years old Orin. And yes working out, i know what i"m getting into. Need to keep the run going on 5 quality tags filled in the last 7 years of calling and helping buddy's. ;)
-
Its going to be another fun hunt for you i'm sure turkeyman. I have been in there on bull hunts the last three years since I seen you guys in there on Brice's hunt. One thing I have learned is they do seem to like it down low a lot more then up high. It does seem to be a bit more cliffy down low makes things hard. Good luck
-
49 :yike: Dang it ...your an old man :yike: :chuckle: Looks like a great place to rifle hunt
-
I remember hearing about that from shane turkeyman. If only i could rewind a year i would do things a bit differently.
Good luck and have fun !
-
Thanks mtman cant wait for the challenge. Dont have to many more hunts in me like this. Yes 45 getting old, but if i'm going to die, in the bottom of that hell hole woud be a great place. ;) It's a tuff hunt but if you work as a team and stay persistent you can make it happen.
-
What would you do differently?
-
You can work down the road from the corral and then sidehill it to roll your ankles and fall all the way to the Grand Ronde.
-
thats the ridge in the pic that goes off to monument ridge the north side of that in the bottom was really good, but the best place I found the whole hunt was in that pic on the left side of that pic in the distance in the very bottom there is bunch of trees that area was loaded with elk!!
-
this one is over the other side of lake ridge. Where the shade meets the sun in the bottom was a 350" bull I was after that day

That country Looks like 4-5 pabst deep and possibly 10 tall. My pack will full before the hunt begins....
-
:chuckle:
-
:chuckle: :chuckle:
We need to draw a tag together :chuckle:
-
It'll be a great hunt as long as Nick and Mike can shoot straight! :chuckle:
-
Hope the can shoot straight up or straight down. :)
-
What would you do differently?
would head to the bottom immediately. I was nervous about hunting that country the first few days and tried to stick to the tops. Did get i to some elk but not like in the bottom.
-

Well I know nicks good for 5 yds and michael.... He needs to remember his range finder 20&30yd shots were passed up last year due to uncertainty :bash:
-
Bull from 2012 in the bottom of the hole.
-
Mt. view pictures.
-
More pics.
-
That country isn't that steep :dunno: :chuckle:

More pics.
Nice bull what he score?
-
Doe you fellas ever see any big mulies down in there?

Most mulies I've seen in there have been 4x4 with big bodies. The last time I saw anything larger was 20 years ago that bailed over the side off the 43 east of the Cloverland. The last 10 years the whitetail have actually been moving into the canyons from the top.
-
Yes. I see plenty of whitetail up there too. I've come home with one the last two years. I was selected for the 172 muzzy buck for that unit. Hoping to find a wayward mulie up there.

See a few nice mulies, not a lot but there are some.

last year Bullblaster and I were coming up from grouse flats 2 days before it opened and there was a really nice 150-160 4x4 standing 35 yards away from the road just eating with no care in the world :chuckle:
-
That buck looks a lot like a buck I took in Dayton. It didn't have the eyeguards though.

That buck was spotted on 3 additional occasions, same spot :chuckle: I wonder if he is still alive :dunno:
-
12 miles of fat burning for nick and I today. Only one little shed though. Be chasing them attached to critters before we know it
-
Nice find on the shed. ;)

It's getting close can't wait. Going over this weekend to have a look around.
-
Take sunscreen and water.
-
It will be a hot one for sure.
-
I was down there last year camped up top...it was 106 in asotin and 71 at camp
-
:yeah:
I've seen the same thing... 102 in Asotin and low 70's in the mountains. Its great. And if you want a mid day break from scouting head down to the Grande Ronde and take a swim and get a milk shake at Bogan's.
-
Bogans has the best milkshakes, especially when it's hot.
-
Last year around the 16th of sept, we drove down to Troy and it was 99!
-
But the Beer was cold :brew:
-
Will check that out thanks. :)
-
It was 102 in pomeroy and 83 up top in the unit. Seen a few elk, deer, a ton of grouse and 1 bear. Set some trail cams up. Come on September.
-
Came through the mtns saturday evening before dark, thermometer said 62 by the Clearwater guard station. didn't feel too bad, great evening
-
Hope we get to go on this hunt with all the fires going on over in the south east. :bash:
-
This might provide a glimmer of hope if WAshington follows suit...

Be over there tomorrow should be great!
-
Sure was fun hunting muzzy down there last year right next to the prescribed burn!!
-
Yep, I got it while hunting muzzy deer last year, parts of it continued on right into the modern firearm elk season with plenty of smoldering spots.
-
Heading over in a couple hours. :IBCOOL:
-
Goodluck!!
-
How bout it turkeyman....? :dunno:

Would you guys recommend this tag? I have hunted in Dayton and Wenehas, but never ventured to that side of the blues. How rugged was it ? I sure love dropping in to bottoms and seeing elk everywhere.
