Shoot if open season, other than that there is no reason.

I thought large carnivores avoid humans/human establishments and resided only in wilderness?  :dunno:

Bang, anytime of the year. He unafraid of humans and presents a clear and present danger, especially to children.

Because if he's walking around my house in full daylight, his very attitude poses a threat. There are no shortage of lions anywhere in the West. As a matter of fact, because lions are at or beyond carrying capacity in WA and OR, adolescent males are forced to find food in places where lions wouldn't normally live. These displaced and often starving adolescents are, in my humble opinion, the most dangerous lions around human habitation. Culling the population by killing animals around the house will not negatively affect their numbers in the least. I understand you might not agree. I'm good with that.

Why?  Really?   Lets see, reason 112, do we weait until he has a child in his grasp to defend the child?   That would be like asking a armed robber to let you go get your gun out of your safe and load it..

That cat would of been blasted all over that patio!! Just because our little people who wear suits support wildlife in crazy numbers dont mean we have to.

Defense is always better than offense

"Cougar, bobcat, and black bear are classified as game animals (WAC 232-12-007), and an open season and a hunting license are required to hunt them.  A property owner, the owner’s immediate family, owner’s documented employees, or tenants of real property may kill one big game animal on the property if the animals are in the physical act of attacking livestock or pets.  (WAC 232-36-051). No permit from WDFW is required. However, WDFW must be notified immediately upon taking one of these animals under these situations."

I think this is pretty standard across the states that have big cats.  If a cat is on my property (particularly on the deck/porch peering in the window), it's going down and going down fast.  Perhaps my firearm liability insurance will cover the cat's initial doctor bills, funeral costs, and follow on pain and suffering of his extended family   :chuckle:.  Yes, that cat would be getting lead poisoning quick if he were at my window.

Would've been a dead kitty.

Agree with RT & Piano. If that cat is coming that close during the day imagine what it would be up to at night around the house, neighbors, etc.

Gun or bow, whatever is closer is sending something to the boiler room.  Cat is way to close and way to calm trying to get thru that window.

No one said they're bloodthirsty killers. It's only that cats in this specific scenario present a danger. His actions are highly unusual for such a reclusive animal. If I had 4 kids and ever let them play by themselves outside and this happened, I wouldn't wait for an attack as an excuse to kill it. But, I've got good kids. So,... :chuckle:

I'd guess that if his kids were bad troublemakers he may let a lion eat a few.

They are dangerous, especially to children.  Here's one account, though it was in a wilderness area.

I have a bad sense of humor when it comes to my kids I guess. But I guess it was a real funny joke.

Great article to post JH, and provides even more of a reason remove that cat from the OP from the population since cats do not know or care about wilderness area that is the real issue.

As a few have mentioned, it being that unafraid in a persons backyard in close proximity to people is a problem.  It is one thing for a cat to track you when you are out hiking in the Mtn, very different for it to come up on a porch and not haul ass out of there when confronted.

It was at that window to get at those domestic cats or anything else it could eat.  Wild animals are not bloodthirsty killers.  But they are predators, their role in the world is to eat weaker animals and produce more cats..  Therefore young children, yes, food and that cat can and will kill them if given any opportunity.  Not because it is evil, but because that is what they do.

Taking it out also means one less predator killing deer and elk making for strong herds for us all to hunt come fall..
