July 24th -30. Kasaan Alaska. I'm bringing an 9wt and 6 wt Fly rod, a spinning rod ( that I use for corkies, yarn balls, buzz bombs etc). The place has some trolling rods and heavy stuff. I hope to get into some trout, Salmon, Steelhead, cod, and Halibut. We have access to boat and bait, but apparently tackle is very expensive.
Plan on crabbing and shrimping if possible.
Also, bringing Grundens rain gear, Simms Waders. Any other suggestions.
Thanks

First off with access to a boat I would focus on the salt :twocents: . And for that i would bring salmon trolling gear flashers, hoochies, leaders etc. A variety of jig heads and bodies , from med. to xxxl , buzz bombs and or other weighted dart/jig like lures . And since you have bait already your ahead of the game . Drop a herring on a rockpile or shelf and you never know what your gonna pull up but you will pull up something :) Oh almost forgot spreader bars . Also tackle is more expensive but in Craig or Klawock Its not unreasnable . Hope this helps .
P.S. Ive never fished that side of the island let me/us know how you do .

Sorry, can't help you on the freshwater side but I do have a lot of experience in the salt not far from Kasaan/Kasaan bay. If you have the boat to get you out to 20 fathom bank you'll find a lot of ping pong paddle halibut, with an occasional bigger fish thrown in as well as an occasional ling. I have caught kings on the bank but It seems like it fished better early in the king season then late and you'll be there right at the end of the king run.
There are some big halibut spots in deep water off Patterson and High Island, if you have a fish finder and plotter, look for 300/350' humps surrounded by very deep drop offs, or look for the boats anchored up a mile or 2 east of those islands.
For salmon, I've done well on the eastside of Grindall Is. in 40 to 120 feet of water as well as the inside drag of Streets Island.
A little closer to Kasaan is Island point, I've done well there for salmon, both silvers and kings.
I ran a 26' boat out of Ketchikan and had access to fishing grounds 40 miles north and south of town, though I didn't spend a lot of time in the general vicinity of Kasaan, I did well enough at the spots I mentioned to consistently put fish in the box, especially on 20 fathom bank for halibut, it was pretty much automatic if you don't need barn doors. Good luck.

Pixie spoons green or orange.

Pixie spoons are proof that you can catch fish on anything in AK. :chuckle:
Only partly joking. For a basically actionless spoon they do catch a lot of fish. I think people like them because you can cast them a long way. I have had best luck on them when supplying lots of additional action.
Agree with the above posts that salt water might be what you want to focus on. Fly rods in streams could be a fun change-up, but I'd get bored catching dollies and cutts for a week. Pinks maybe sockeye might be in the streams in your window.
Assuming you'll have access to a stream, you might find you're in-between runs for kings and silvers. You could have some great bottomfish and silver fishing in the salt- I'd gear up for that. Silvers you should be able to catch with any preferred method, including your fly rods. Light-tackle = more fun. :twocents:

No king runs on any P.O.W. Is rivers/streams, a little early for silvers.

Wasn't aware of that. Spent a few seasons around Ketchikan area, didn't get to POW much.
