Ive been reading forums online trying to figure out where i should hunt, would like to stay within an hour of home if possible. (Located in Auburn near Muckleshoot) Also cant really afford any permits at the moment so looking for public access only. Willing to do some hiking if thats what it takes. Really Im just looking for some advice on some general areas near me. Ive been reading up on greenwater and ravensdale. Hear greenwater gets hit by the mucks pretty hard and from what ive read not much land out in ravensdale. id prefer to be able to hunt bear deer and elk in the same area if possible. Any help would be appreciated.

With the one hour limit, I think I would hit I-90 and head east over Snoqualmie Pass. The south side of I-90 will be the Taneum unit (336) and the north side is Teanaway (335).
Tons of public land, and it's mostly National Forest.

Why go so far, stampede pass is perfect and has more bears with less people

Yeah, Stamede would also be an option, can't you get into it from the Snoqualmie pass area? I'm just not that familiar with that unit or I would have mentioned it as well.

Would that be on the east side of the pass then? Id be willing to travel a bit more for better opportunities just would like to get out there and get as much footwork in as possible . Really looking to get something this year so i wanna go where i have the best chances but also close enough to get out there every chance

You could also check out the gates on the south side of highway 18 in the tiger mountain area. There are a couple different gates on that opposite side that you can walk back behind. Never been back there myself but it's open to walk in, deer, bear, and elk all in the area. Check the regs for what's huntable out there.

Do a little research on the Ravensdale area, if you can find access near the watershed the hunting can be fantastic!! (just don't go in!)

Unless you have a permit ,greenwater -Whiteriver is not open for elk.

Agree, Stampede would be a good starting point. Its all there and close to you. Not the best area but not the worst. Anything possible there.

Do not expect to get something your first year, you might get lucky and pull it off, but it normally takes a few years to learn an area and how the animals in that area act. Don't get caught up on instant gratification.

After looking at everything i think im going to go with stampede pass for elk and bear then possibly head east for deer. The numbers from harvests from previous years in stampede pass gmu look decent for elk. My grandfather used to hunt Modern alot when he was in better health. He recommends somewhere near colville so i might give that a shot if i can make it out there. Not sure how it will work out not being able to scout much out there though

We like to hit that are for deer as well. Early archery is great for bears..

I would recommend finding some national forest or state land in GMUs 117/121 for deer. That would be around where your grandpa suggested.

Thanks everyone again for helping me out. I really appreciate actually getting some decent advice instead of getting shot down because i dont know much. Seems like i have a plan so gonna start scouting then hopefully later this year ill be able to post pictures of something!
