I was interested in camping in Cape disappointment and hoping to do some fishing. My goal this summer has to get on some surf perch! And with success I hope to get my dad on some. I grew up in southern California and fished off a pier everyday after my dad got off work and surf perch was definitely one of the fish we miss being able to catch. I've tried in Lincoln City with no luck father's day weekend and then long beach last weekend but only turned up crabs. Gonna try and get some sand shrimp and see if I can make it happen this time around since I've only got to try grocery shrimp and gulp sand worms.
So my question is.... is there feasible shore fishing for perch from here? Should I head up to long Beach instead? If perch doesn't work out should I try for some salmon instead? Any help is appreciated. It's been 2 decades since my dad has had surf perch and I would love to give him the chance to catch one now that I am old enough to be taking him fishing instead.

You can catch perch off the jetti at cape disappointment, go to Waikiki beach. You can fish on the south end of Long Beach also, its decent.

The Army Corps of Engineers have been working on the north jetty for a while and won't be finished til October. So that's a no go.

Yes the weekends are usually all that I have free. I work a easy schedule m-f 8-5, so going to illwaco/long beach is reasonable for a over night sat/sun weekend trip. Considered ocean shores but that looks like something I'd wanna spend 2 nights at if I were gonna head that far
