I had a pack follow me once.  There were at least twenty of them.  It was dark out, but could make them out with little light on white sand.  I tucked in the brush and went up a crook in a tree.  They passed through under me at dawn, moving around in a meadow--none even looked up, yipped or sniffed the tree.  So, I imagine if they were actually looking for me they could've smelled me and would've known I was up in the tree.  So, not sure their intent in following for a few hundred yards.

In that area of NC I don't think they can shoot coyotes, either, because of mistaking them for the red wolf. Another wolf success story!

From what I understand, the coyotes on that side are bigger than they are here.

In the NE they have coydogs/coywolves. They're big. I'm not sure if the coywolves are that far down yet. They may be mating with the red wolves.

I watched that documentary about the woman who was killed back east in Canada, they said all the coyotes back east have wolf DNA and run larger than ours.  They're less skittish,  bolder, and tend to pack up more. I don't know if that holds true that far south into NC

what a crappy way to go.  Too bad she opted to run for it instead of finding a club and getting aggressive with them.

In the paper today. No trapping coyotes in CA apparently has its problems.

Coy wolves. There is a documentary on Netflix about the hybrids back East. Skull size is in between the 2. kind of interesting.
