Does WDFW still send special permit holders a hard copy of their special permit?
My hunting partner and I were selected for Peaches archery bull, and neither he or I have received an email, or anything on paper from WDFW notifying us of our drawing results. Luckily I have drawn some kind of special permit the last 4 years, and have always had a hard copy in my hand by now.
-
We don't have any of ours yet for our house either. I am not panicking yet, the computer still shows me as drawn. Haha
-
Go to WDFW's help site.
-
I called the WDFW about the same question for mine. They, WDFW, told me that my license/elk tag is my permit. Mine is for the Yakima Training Center, Alkali disabled permit.
-
I have not received anything either. I think I will print a copy of the results I was selected for.
-

Do you really trust them that much???

It says MID July in the rules book. I am still waiting for a late doe tag.

I do not trust any, any Government. This agency seems to have a reputation for lying or not knowing anything. Hopefully, that helps..

Trust them about what? The original question was when the permits would be mailed:

That question is answered on WDFW's Help site: “We mail permits to drawn applicants around mid-July. If you did not draw a permit, you will not get a mailed notice. For spring bear, we mail notices by the end of March.”
And no, a license is not a substitute for the permit. The permit must be with the hunter while hunting, in addition to the hunting license and transport tag.

Hence the question about trust...

Clearly spelled out on the website. You don't have them yet because it's early yet.
-
Tags will be mailed tomorrow 7/10, special permits will be available to purchase tomorrow 7/10, per email I received from WDFW.
-
I have not received my permit cards in the mail yet but my second deer tag has been available to purchase online since the day after the drawing posted.
-

:yeah:
But why would you put any effort to find an answer for yourself?
When you can go onto an internet forum and ask somebody else to answer it for you, then have dozens of different answers and opinions, whether informed or not???
-
Is it too late to apply?
What are they for, anyway?

I think you got "tags" and "special permits" mixed up. They won't mail out the tags until they are paid for, that is if you're talking about moose, sheep, and goat tags. Deer and elk tags everyone should already have. Special permits are not purchased, they are drawn.
-
I just called WDFW to check. I was told there is going to be a redraw.
-
They said all state and DONE lands are going to be closed through November and the Fed's are in the process of doing the same. ...So a redraw for late hunting is in the process. .
-
Not >:(
-
I just called WDFW to check. I was told there is going to be a redraw.
Highly doubt it

The WDFW lied to me about NOT HAVING TO HAVE A PERMIT, period. The WDFW told me, my tag and license was my permit. I just called again to verify the Lie/misinformed WDFW employee and was TOLD to me 1 minute ago, that the permits are being mailed out tomorrow. To bad these high paid WDFW people, don't know their own rules and laws THEY write and expect the hunters to know everything when they don't. :bash:

I'd be more inclined to believe that some human didn't know the right answer to your question so rather than take the time to get the correct answer, they just made some stuff up and blew smoke up your skirt. FWIW, the answer to the OP's question is readily available on their website.
-
Campmeat,
You may have just got the wrong person. Do you really think all WDFW employees are going to know everything there is to know about hunting? The person you talked to may not be a hunter.
It could also easily have been just a mis-communication, with the way people so often use the wrong words for certain things, like "tag" instead of "permit" or "permit" instead of "application."
Isn't it pretty much common sense that if you draw a permit you need to have the actual permit with you while hunting? Why even ask that question? Or if you're going to ask it, ask here on the forum where you will get the correct answer.

They should know the answers, period. What happened if I was dumb enough, to believe him and go, kill my elk and get caught without the permit ? Who's gonna get screwed, me. Not the idiot who should KNOW the system they make. Ignorance of their law, is no excuse.
Bobcat,
This forum does not always give the right answers all the time. I trust, not really, as you can see. I know exactly how to articulate my questions, to anybody, to get what I thought would of been the correct answer, for whatever and whoever I ask a question. I'm a trained interrogator and investigative hunter.

"To bad these high paid WDFW people, don't know their own rules and laws THEY write and expect the hunters to know everything when they don't."
Have you ever heard of the term "First Level Tech Support?" In essence, that is who you are dealing with when you make a call to ANY agency, company, etc., that has a customer support department or person.
Thay are almost always the lowest paid employee, and at times, are not even an employee of that entity, but rather a contract call center like situation. I am certain the person answering the phone had zero to do with the laws, rules and policies written.
To say that person is lying is grossly unfair.
To say they were wrong or incompetent, yes, they should know the simple answers or where to either look to get them or who to refer you to, after all, if they can't, why are they in customer service???
As has been said, the help and FAQ sections usually have the correct answers to simple and basic questions such as this was.
-
To say that person is lying is grossly unfair.
:yeah:
It's easier and far more effective to look up answers for myself, rather than ask someone who may or may not know the answers.
"All hunters, regardless of age, must have in their possession a valid hunting
license and any required tags, permits, or stamps to hunt wildlife."
-
Why are you guys sticking up for these people is beyond me..
I don't give a rip if they are low-level anything, THEY SHOULD KNOW. It's their friggin' job or ask. They gave me an answer, that could of cost me dearly, yet some of you stick up for them.
-
As I said, isn't it obvious that if you draw a special permit that you would need to have the permit with you while hunting? I don't get why you would even ask that question. :dunno:
-

Ah, maybe because I've never drawn a permit. Never thought of that did you ?

That would make sense. When you get the permit, it does state on it that it must be with you while hunting but if you've never received one before you wouldn't have seen that.
-
To be fair...
It can be a little confusing. The only thing I have ever drawn is a cow and doe tag. I attach the green card to my general season elk tag, while hunting.
Correct me if I am wrong. Don't you have to surrender your general season deer or elk tag, if you draw a Buck, Quality Buck, Bull, or Quality Bull special permit?
Then pay the difference between the cost of a general season elk permit and special permit?
I have never drawn. Like Campmeat; I have no clue. My father drew a Bull permit, so I want to make sure we do it right. Thanks in advance..
-
Your father will need his regular elk tag to use, along with the special permit. There is no additional cost. You may be thinking of the multi-season elk tag.
-
Just to be fair to you guys. If I ask about something, I want the right answers the first time I ask. I don't like it when people say something and don't know. All the guy should of said, I don't know, let me get someone who can answer your question. He didn't do that, so I believed him. Then I saw this today, called the WDFW and was given the right answer.
-

At your age, no I never thought that you could go that long without drawing a permit! ;)
So what number did you call, when you were given the wrong answer? Just curious.

Exactly, could not agree more.
But to accuse them of lying is not right. Stoopid...yeah, lazy...yeah, maybe.

YES 100% agree, that is a fair and reasonable expectation.

I've never put in for anything, except bear. When hunting was at the best ever, you could shoot big, huge monster bulls or spikes, didn't matter.
So, at my age, your asking me what number I called... :chuckle: I think you gave me the number... :dunno:

While not the same situation, when I went in to apply at an idfg office earlier this year a guy walked up to the counter and asked a very simple question about waiting periods after drawing here in idaho. He stated that he had drawn a bull moose tag the previous year and wanted to know how long he had to wait before applying for cow moose. The lady at the counter quickly thumbs through the regs then says "well I can't find it, but I'm pretty sure it is a 1 year wait". So I chimed in and said no it is 2 years(correct info). She says back to me "no it is 1 year". I let it slide thinking whatever then the guy asks "well can I still apply for deer and elk" she replies "no that is also a 1 year wait"(wrong again) at this point I pipe back up and say "sir it is a 2 year wait on moose only(correct info), so you can apply for goat, or sheep, or deer elk and antelope" the lady replies "no I'm sorry we're talking about big game here" at that point the lady helping me had printed all my stuff off so I turned and walked out.
All of that to say that I agree with campmeat here and think that maybe a basic knowledge of the laws they are answering questions about.

That makes sense. I drew multi season deer last season. So only the OIL hunts require the hunter to pay the special permit fee associated with the permit?
So when you got drawn for a sheep permit, you had to pay a substantial cost for to receive the permit; I'm guessing..

Yes, $332 for the tag. The permit is "free." :)

The permit actually costs 13.60 if I remember right? Has this thread really gone on this long? :bash: :bash: :bash: :yike:

You're paying for the application, that's what the $13.60 is for. If permits could be bought for $13.60, everyone would be buying one. :chuckle:
-
WOW! You all are really splitting hairs here :yike: this process really is not all that complicated :beatdeadhorse:
-
A simple, it's on page ## would have been fine.
-
Looks like none of you are getting your permits. They all showed up on my doorstep yesterday when FedEx left several boxes. If you each send me $10 I will go through and mail them back out to you. Good thing there is a burn ban on right now otherwise the boxes would just go straight to my burn pile.
Gawwwwdddd!! Is it hunting season yet.... Everyone is going stir crazy and getting cranky.

Im with camp on this 100%.If a,any for for that matter wdfw employee is asked a question the answer should be correct 100% or an Im not sure reply should be given.A wrong answer from them should never be allowed. That goes for any and all LEO in my op.Wrong is wrong if you dont know the answer 100% just say so big deal.

Yep. Only 100 % perfect individuals should apply.

I think what Bob is trying to say is the person probably thought they were correct but as it happens from time to time, she made an error. From her own mistake or someone else giving her inaccurate info to relay. It does happen.
Oh wait....stevemiller, you're the same guy who thinks the hunters Ed instructors should be able to recite every hunting law spot on every time too, aren't you? I forgot.

It's a little over $15 an hour.
That's if they worked their total 40 hour work week, 52 weeks per year, without any paid holidays, pregnancy pay, sick leave and whatever else they get paid for from the government, right Jackelope ? :chuckle:
I came up with $16.82 an hour.

Same thing happened to my youngest daughter. Thought I had checked her results along with mine and my son's, but somehow missed that she drew a Marengo/Dayton/Area1010 cow tag which arrived in the mail on Monday.

I would give it until the first part of next week and then maybe make a call. :twocents:

I got 2 & wondered if I got an OIL & missed it? I opened em both I got a bull & forgot I drew a cow tag too. I was not even thinking of tagging a cow with a bull tag. Not a bad problem as I only had 1 point for the cow. Probably be a last day tag.
