Heading out this weekend with the family and friends to dig up some razor clams . The question is I have a 7 month old and can he legally get a limit. I know he cant eat them but the rest of us will. I could not find any answers on line or in the regs :bash:. Any help would help. Thanks

Nope. The youngster/diggers must be able to assist in some fashion, like help get em out of the sand to the bucket at least..... Sorry, still a few years for your lil' helper....

I would think that a person must have there own bag for there limit and be physical enough to dig them? I would say no to your question. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys thats what I figured.

new regs for clam diggers just came out.One clam out of every limit must be forfeited, for research and quality control.this is a new project, the clams must be taken to Graham.you can leave them with our inspector Mr Rasbo!!

Tom this is what the regs say quote ". Everyone claiming a limit must actively participate in the harvesting process." take it for what it means, does that mean being strapped on your back is actively participating, I dont know maybe a lawyer could tell yah, it says that each digger must has a separate container, you can share shovels or guns . Here is the link. http://wdfw.wa.gov/fish/shelfish/razorclm/razor2.htm It should be fun see yah sat.

I have 2 kids of my own and they have been digging with me since they were able to start walking. I spoke with a game warden last fall and he said all they have to do is be able to carry their own limit in a net or bucket. Active participation as defined by him was being able to carry the net/bucket.
My kids love to dig in the sand so I just pop them out and let them grab'em and stick them in the net. They love it. Cleaning on the other hand you'll never find them around but when it come time to eat I can't cook them fast enough. Funny how that works huh?

Very cool.
Nothing better than seeing a young child "wrastling" in a big ol' razor clam... :)

well we didn't have to worry about my sons limit. the weather was hell. still had a blast w/ my daughter and friends. hope for better weather next month. isn't that that truth about when time to clean no ones to be found. oh well its worth it. ;)
