What's everyone's longest consecutive run on killing elk in Washington any drop in doesn't matter. I'm currently on mine now with 4 archery elk in a row. Feeling a little pressured on the strive for five.
-
My longest run is "0"! :chuckle:
Seems you have it figured out I wouldn't worry to much about it. :twocents:
Why do you feel pressure about it? That would make hunting seem like a job and no fun. :dunno:

3. Spike, cow, cow.

Every year since 2004.

Every year since 2004.
now that's a good streak.

not sure if i remember the last year I haven't tagged a elk.

1985-1999, all archery. Got a few since then but haven't had a lot of time to hunt them.
-
Not me but know 2 brothers on the west side that shot first elk at the age of 13 and have shot elk every year since. They are now in their mid 50s.
-
7 years, didn't get one in 2013, but killed one in 2014
-
I'm currently sitting at 8 in a row. First one was a cow. The last 7 have been bulls.
-
I think anything over 2 is impressive
I have killed one elk in two years of archery hunting. One every other year would be a good average but I'd much rather get one every year.
-
Wish I had the same track record with bulls as I do bears and mature BT's. You guys are impressive.
-
1981 to 1996 I think. All archery and a few of those years there was elk in multiple states. Might have that end date wrong by a year 1996 or 97, but I think 96 is the year. There are a few cows in there during that time. More cows than bulls since then :chuckle:
-
Gotta invest the time effort. I really haven't and best streak is probably 3 years. I don't generally go more than a year or two now without an elk but still eat plenty of tag soup when I don't put the time in.
-
cow...cow...bull...cow...4 years in a row. 6 in the last 7. 8 total.
-
4 years, this year will make it 5.

Wanna go hunting?

id like to know if all of these elk in a row are diy public land? im sure alot are, im just curious
-
I did 2007-2013. So 7. Trophy hunted my way to tag soup last year and it too sure about this year. It'll be a bit more difficult now that I'm hunting east side since the weyco permits started. We had the Coweeman elk figured out

I am not against killing an elk on private land. In fact I dream of owning my own private elk slaying ranch some day. But so far all my elk have been DIY public land.
I hope that changes this year as my Utah hunt is a DIY private land hunt. That ranch is probably bigger than four Yale units put together, but I'm hoping the limited access really increases the number of big boys living there! Been quite a few years since I tagged anything over 300.

Will you adopt me? :IBCOOL:
-
I think I've gotten an elk in Washington every year but 1 since 1999. Didn't get one around 2005.
Plenty of cows and a few bulls.
My kids only want elk burger.
-
Damn. You guys are bad-A$$!! I'm on a 10 year droubt! Quite a streak I've got going ...
-
currently sitting on four successful years in a row. Seems I am spending more time trying to get my friends animals before myself. That makes getting an elk extra difficult. Makes for great memories thoe.
-

Mine are all DIY. And all were killed on land open to the public ( state and industrial timberland) except the last three were on Weyerhaeuser land after they went to access permits. Not sure if that counts.
-
I've gotten lucky, been 8 yrs in a row for me. 5 cows and 3 bulls. One of which scores high enough to make the Washington state book.
-
had a good run of 3 in a row then a short dry spell of 2 yrs now looking to start another run go a nice bull last season so 1 in a row at present
-
Public
-
Maybe only 3 tag soups since 1995
-
Nice work fellas!!
-
3 or 4 years? Dang Army interruptions 😉
-
Washington...all public land DIY

Had an 8 year Westside branched bull streak going but finally ate my 2013 tag,but got a cow last year so im starting a new run.

Just not very much access to private land in WA, ID or OR. So I would assume the vast majority of those posting on here would be DIY Public. Elk are a lot different than whitetails or even ag-mulies. Even large private ranches in Utah, Montana, CO and NM you have to be careful not to push the elk off the private land. Doesn't take much!
I used to hunt the Yale a lot. After about three days of guys Rambo hunting and Russian Tourette bugling probably 60-70% of the elk would escape to the Toutle. In those small areas it just doesn't take much! Most of the elk we killed were hell bent for the Toutle running north away from the Russians. If you didn't ambush them on their way out you were lucky to see them again before muzzy season started.
Then of course we had all those great years hunting the Winston migration. That was dang near a gimme until they took our bulls away and attempted to slaughter all the cows! Now hoof rot is doing the rest.
There were a lot more elk on the Oregon coast when I was growing up too. Prior to the spotted owl and the marbled murrelet scams clear cutting was wide spread and forage was extremely rich for coastal elk. Now you fly over areas I hunted and there is no feed to be found anywhere! As a result elk numbers have plummeted! What elk are left are concentrated right along with all the hunters. But at least the little birds are nesting happy >:(
So you young guys really do have it a bit tougher than us more mature guys :chuckle: Nothing hard work, good planning and being smart can not overcome. But no doubt tougher than it used to be!

All of mine have been diy, public land and over half have been solo (hunt and pack out).

That is an interesting note. Over half of mine are solo too! Hmmm, maybe there is something to that :chuckle: :chuckle:

All public land over the counter tags except one permit bull

Oooo!!!! I'd like to get a WA "Quality Bull" tag some day before I die.
Though I usually feel luckier buying PowerBall and Mega Millions tickets than I do applying for WDFW Quality anything. :chuckle:

Sounds like a lot of guys are having success, congrats! My latest run has been 3 in a row. - Fuzznuts

You'll be just fine if you don't get married and teach her to hunt same weapon as you. :chuckle:

Didn't happen without pictures....... :chuckle:
-
13 in a row, the last 10 with archery.
-
One in a row, almost two last year but I left my spot 30 minutes too early.

All of mine were high fence and had a halter on.

I missed the part about Washington state mine don't count
a lot of out of state

I wasn't sure what "any drop in" meant in the OP. So my first four might not count either. And I think I have a year around 90-91 when I stopped elk hunting after tagging Oregon first. So I probably broke the rules too.
-
Great work guys. I have only killed 5 elk since 2005 so not a lot of room for streaks. Two years were sacrificed during archery spike only seasons. That can be a tough go.
All 5 were archery and DIY.

If you are talking years hunted I am at 5 in a row.. I missed a year hunting two years ago due to the birth of my daughter. All bulls. 3 spikes 2 branched.
-
1991-2009 (Didnt hunt WA 2010) 2011- 2012 (didn't hunt WA 2013) 2014- hopefully when it's not fun anymore. Current streal - 1. Archery -Muzzleloder- Archery.
-
6-public land (and counting) I hope.
-
there is a reason why 10% of the elk hunters kill 90% of the elk....
-
I've been present when 2 bulls were killed, i've just not killed one, and now i'm archery hunting with my wife this year.
-
Here's a question to everyone here who's tagging out consistently--
are you returning to the same area every year or unit each year?
or have you moved around a bit until you found a place that you can consistently tag out?

don't you know elk go to the same spot to die like elephants
-
Every year different spot. Some within a mile or two, others 60 miles away. Funny thing is, once you figure it out it really doesn't matter what unit you hunt you'll find them. I track 3 to 4 herds pre season so regardless of pressure or closures etc I always have a good backup to the backup.

Just about the time you learn an area so well that success becomes easy they will likely log it or close it down. So try to keep up on plan "B", "C" and "D"
-
2, hopefully this year will be 3

...and now i'm archery hunting with my wife this year.
Yep, that killed my streak too :chuckle: :chuckle:
-
2008-2014 for me with my bow. 5 cows and 2 bulls in this state during that time.

When it comes to elk I hunt the same unit every year. Deer is what gets me traveling around.
-
15, two cows the rest bulls all within 15 miles of each other.
-
Shot 14 or 15 since 1997. All public land Washington. Some with permits some with general tags. longest run was probably 8 or so. I try and sit and think of every kill but its hard when sitting at home. Much easier when you see a ridge and think oh ya I remember that one.
